Travelling with a local operator
This holiday is operated by a company based in the holiday destination and they will be able to provide expert local knowledge. They will be able to tailor make your holiday to suit your requirements not only concerning the dates of travel but also typically the standard of accommodation, and thus price. It is rare for local operators to be able to help with the booking of your flights.

How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

This tour visits some of Nicaragua’s and Central America’s most biologically diverse regions. For every tour participant a donation to the Pure Earth Project is made on their behalf.

This project focuses on three main areas – reforestation in Leon and Chinandega regions, forest conservation (avoided deforestation) on the Caribbean coast and support of local conservation projects in the regions we work. In this case donations are given to the Los Guatuzos ecological centre and Indio Maíz Marine and Natural Resources Department. These funds help buy supplies and equipment so that park rangers can protect these invaluable areas with more efficiency.

By visiting biological centres and areas of conservation such as El Jaguar, Mombacho, Montebelli, Indio Maiz and Los Guatuzos this tour helps fund conservation programs in these areas. Our guides on this tour are wildlife biologists, whom are involved in research when they are not guiding. There is possibility that on this tour they will find something valuable that may prompt further conservation efforts.

Contracting local guides in each destination plays a part to spread awareness to their communities of the value of their local area. Employing local guides also reduces the pressure on the local environment by activities such as hunting and wildlife poaching, which are found in these remote regions. Before trip departure we give a full briefing to all participants on safety, sustainable trip practices and ways in which to limit environmental impact and observe wildlife.

The foundation of our tour company is built on sustainable practices, which are exemplified by our sustainable policy and responsible travel guidebook. This policy outlines guidelines such as using small motorboats and having a no trash policy on tours. We also only work with suppliers that follow a basis of sustainable principles and where possible certified by rainforest alliance.

Community

This trip brings benefits to local community by contracting local guides and assistants in remote regions of Nicaragua such as the Indio Maíz reserve and Los Guatuzos reserve.

We also support small local businesses such as small restaurants, street vendors and crafts shops in a variety of locations. Preservation of unique local culture and traditions such as in the Solentiname Islands, whose unique art and poetry are found nowhere else in the world. In Los Guatuzos, Indio Maiz, El Jaguar, Momotombo and Montebelli funds generated by this tour help to train local guides and community outreach programs.

Our partners in Sabalos and Jinotega are working on health care and education projects in the local communities. This tour generates funds for these projects. All our chosen hotel and supply partners also employ all local staff thus supporting the local economy

All our tour participants are provided with a digital version of our Responsible Travel Guidebook, which outlines ways socially responsible with the community and local culture of Nicaragua.

Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
