Koh Samui yoga and detox holiday, Thailand
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We organised a Southern coast beach cleanup activity for guest and staff to clean up the beach. We ask guests to be mindful when using water, try to re-use towel and try to take shorter showers and request to change the bed sheets only when necessary We do not sell bottled water and only serve free filtered mineral water and refillable water bottles. We select suppliers that provide biodegradable products such as toilet paper, detergents and cleaning solutions. Our shop products support our mission in chemical free and all natural suppliers. We select local organic produce when possible. We compost all of our food waste to use for fertilizer and generate less trash and recycle glass, cardboard boxes & plastic. We use solar panel energy for hot water and collect rain water and use treated grey water to use for landscaping.
Community
Centered Foundation: Karma Yoga and Charity Work Samodhana is the Sanskrit word referring to giving of one's labor, physical work, for a cause beyond yourself. The aim of Centered Foundation is to serve our community through such karma yoga activity in the community we live in. We hope to provide more than just monetary means to bring positive changes to those less fortunate. We provide the opportunity for our students to connect with the local community in ways they would not normally get to do. During every Foundation Training course, and at other times throughout the year, we find opportunities for karma yoga projects.
Our chief work so far has been to help the local schools. In April 2008 we helped completely renovate a local kindergarten school that was completely run down and lacked in sufficient funding. The school, and subsequently lives of the 120 kids aged 3-7 going to it, was completely transformed. In September 2008 we began to renovate one of the island's oldest schools through painting, cleaning and arranging through our donations for the new bathrooms to be built.
As Gandhi's quote states, by absorbing yourself in this work that has a great impact on others though you may never materially benefit from, a tremendous impact happens for the heart. For a while at least we can forget about ourselves and put all our energy and attention into work for others. The feeling and growth that comes from this is only to be experienced and not to be broadcasted. We would like to thank all the students who have freely given of their time and effort and others who physically could not help but donated money to change these schools and the children within them. Our 2010 project is focused on raising funds for a local 10 year old boy named Rino for his life saving heart operation.
