Finland hiking holiday

How this holiday makes a difference

All your money goes to local area, for the companies and people. Nowadays in rural areas in Finland is hard to find a job. Tourism has still a small role in this region but it is essential income for the people who are involved in it.

This is not a mass tourism – we seldom see other walkers than our group. Therefore this trek has just positive impact for the local community. One example of this is small reindeer farm. Reindeer herding has become very difficult to live on, mainly because the predators are eating so much of the wild roaming reindeers. The farm which we visit on this tour has started to organize services for tourists, meals, reindeer sleigh rides, reindeer souvenirs. They are now getting most of their income from the travellers who visit their farm and therefore are able to keep us the traditional reindeer herding culture in the area.

One of the very much liked thing of this walking holiday is to get to known the other group members. Our departures are international so we often have a great mixture of different nationalities. The best is 8 different nationalities in a group of 12 persons!

Our groups sizes are small, maximum is 12 persons. This is good for the enjoyment of the clients and also makes sure we are not causing harm for the environment.

We are carrying all the waste with us, nothing is leaved in the forest. The participants are told to carry the waste back and they will be told how the recycling works at the lodges. The lunch coffee is brewed by the open fire, very natural and traditional way in the country which is full of wood. Coffee is enjoyed from wooden cups instead of disposable coffee cups.

We have an environmental policy which we follow. We are walking mostly on government owned land. We have a cooperation agreement with Forest and Park Service of Finland and we follow their principles of sustainable tourism.
