In this tour we work with 2 small safari companies and local masseur who is specialized in Traditional Finnish Bonesetting. There are only 150 of these specialists and one of them living here in Kuhmo. For our wellbeing menus we use products we have bought from the local people, this is also a good income for the locals. Products we use in Herbal jacuzzi are organic Finnish products from Fräntsilä.
We work very closely with local companies. Some of the safari companies are run by only one man giving customers lots of historical and cultural points of view –also during the snowshoe tours etc. Also many local associations are part of the tourism in Kuhmo. For example once a week during the winter time local Folklore group visit the hotel playing, singing and dancing together with the customers. All our employees are local young people and we do encourage them to raise their families in the area. Also our partners (transportation, food, activity companies etc.) are locals. We buy and use as much as possible local ingredients. For example all berries, mushrooms, fish we buy from the local people and the rye bread we use have been created together with the local bakery.
Finland's protected areas are usually situated on state-owned lands and waters. Metsähallitus manages the state-owned protected areas. Also northern wilderness reserves, national hiking areas and the state-owned public waters are managed by Metsähallitus. We have a lot of cooperation with Metsähallitus, one of their visitor centres, “Petola”, is situated only 700 meters from the hotel. Petola Visitor Centre offers versatile information on Finland’s large carnivores - brownbear (Ursus arctos), wolf (Canis lupus), lynx (Lynx lynx) and wolverine (Gulo gulo) and also information on Friendship Park, Hiidenportti National Park, Oulujärvi Hiking Area, Lauttavaara Nature Study Forest and Kostamus Strict Nature Reserve. The centre also provides information on hiking trails in Kuhmo and Kainuu, as well as, information on hiking and outdoor recreation possibilities in all parts of Finland and information on nature conservation & protected areas.

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
