How this holiday makes a difference

We try to ensure that all our trips not only minimise the negative effects of tourism but actually have a positive impact on the communities who welcome us into their villages and often their homes. Using local guides, local transport and local accommodation and paying fair wages, ensures that not only do our clients gain a unique insight into the culture they are visiting but also that as much of their money as possible stays in the local community.

Wherever possible we also contribute to community projects (helping to preserve traditional ways of life, providing education and supporting environmental initiatives) and encourage our clients to visit or even lend a helping hand. Running this trip as a small group or tailor-made and using local guides who help our clients to understand and respect the cultural differences means that our clients are often treated as welcomed guests rather than intruding foreigners. We travel at a leisurely pace to allow you the time to fully appreciate the charm of this fascinating country

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Volunteering locally at the orphanage..it was just an unforgettable experience, there are no words to describe it, you have to live it!! The kids are amazing and I will miss them so much!!! It was only a week however it was long enough to create a bond for all my life. I will surely come back with same new ideas for the orphanage.

Secondly, If you want to know how Thai people live and their culture this is the way to go.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Wear long sleeves tops and long trousers to avoid moschito bites and sun burn :)

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Surely, staying at the volunteer center benefited the school.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The Koh Sok National Park trip with the kayaking company was truly amazing. Climbed a waterfall, saw a wild baby elephant and heard the singing gibbons. Lived like the locals and ate plenty of wholesome Thai food. No frills but no illnesses either!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Nikki's advice was great - and we would recommend going for the hotels that were up-market and away from the crowds. A good contrast to the more basic living in the rainforest floating bungalows. Take loads of insect repellent.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes. I was very pleased to see how much our holiday spending money helped local economies. Eating out away from the hotels was incredibly cheap (often very tasty) and helped spread the wealth to the individual villagers rather than big multi-nationals. Tsunami -hit areas seemed very pleased to see us as they need the tourists to keep coming.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

A really brilliant experience, with so much variety. Being met and transported between all our different activities and venues took a lot of stress out of our travelling plans and all connections etc went smoothly. We can't thank Nikki enough for all her arrangements as we were a group of 12 (2 families). Everything lived up to our expectations and much more.
