How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

On this cruise we strive to use the power of wind as much as possible, and minimize the use of motor power. Mornings and late afternoons are spent walking, kayaking and bicycling, usually with local guides.

On our trips we bike on paved roads only, walk and hike on existing paths and tell our guests not to feed, fish, hunt and disturb animals.

In our office we minimize printing actions and recycle paper. We support the orphan bear shelter in Kutarevo.

Community

By booking this trip you bring much needed income to the people who are still recovering from the war-torn years as this was the area severely affected by war. This trip ensures that the local people benefit as much as possible in the form of jobs (we employ local guides and drivers) and provision of accommodation (we use family owned hotel or home stay with local family) most of all that negative environmental impacts are kept to the minimum. As a company we use local transfer services, buy food from the small farms and work on developing responsible waste management by stimulating waste recycle. By buying local products you are supporting this countries’ economy and helping Croatia to stand on her feet again!

We consider as our responsibility to lead efforts to maintain and preserve the integrity of this fledgling sector by petitioning the introduction of tighter controls over the use of the country's natural resources. As a company, we support the local community by building camps in partnership with local families, building bridges and accesses to the rivers. In order to preserve traventine barriers on Zrmanja River we have built a wooden detour bridges.

One of the best holidays I have been on! Perfect combination of relaxing and activities. We have been to places that you would never come across as a normal tourist and got the chance to sample some amazing food, all in all an excellent trip and I would highly recommend it.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The whole experience was amazing. We did such a variety of activities - hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, snorkelling, sailing. We loved the diversity of experiences. It was fabulous! Croatia is SO beautiful and the people are wonderful. I think the best part of booking through this tour opertaor was access to local people. We ate the BEST home-cooked meals at local fishermen and farmers' houses. It was very special!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Do it!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes. Absolutely. Many of our meals were eaten at local people's homes, so we paid them directly for their hospitality and food. We were also able to recycle our bottles while on the boat, which we appreciated.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

It was excellent!

If you are travelling alone be aware the group may change along the way and you may be left with no ' group ' for company. Out of the 7 day trip I had 3 days of solitude!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

We had a great holiday (one of our best - and we have a lot!!). The most exciting part was snorkelling into a cave whose entrance was only just on the waterline; the most memorable, difficult to say - the company (our group of 6 really gelled), the places we visited (that you can really only get to in a kayak), the islands and their people themselves......

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

This operator were not always the most proactive at communication and we had to chase them on occasion for simple things like, 'is our booking confirmed?' Having said that, everything worked out as it should and it was all 'as advertised' on their website. Our guide, Dom, was excellent.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes we did. We stayed in local rooms (very comfortable), ate at the local restaurants (very well), drank the local wine, used the local transport, shopped for picnics at the local shop etc. As we were kayaking with a bike ride thrown in, it couldn't have been more environmentally friendly.

4. Any other comments?

I hope this feedback is useful. It really was a memorable holiday. We all vowed not to tell too many people about the area so that it doesn't get spoilt but, being realistic it will get even more popular and I guess our advice would be to go sooner rather than later. Thanks for requesting the feedback. We hope to use your website in the future.
