Winter activity week in Poland and Slovakia

Small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.

How this holiday makes a difference

UK office
It all starts at home so we have first worked to reduce our carbon footprint in our UK offices. Through energy conservation measures and recycling policies in place, we are proud to be actively reducing the waste produced and our impact on the environment. We support various projects all over the world to try and give something back to the places we visit.

Leaders & local suppliers
We have an excellent long-term relationship with the local operator who employ and train all leaders. We provide refresher training with a focus on Responsible Tourism, so our local leaders can educate our clients locally on helping to preserve the way of life in their area.
Our winter activities week is based in a small, traditional, highland community not well known to international tourists. The local area is increasingly looking to tourism as a source of income to supplement the traditional revenue streams such as farming. This helps to ensure the continuation of the local history and traditions, as well as encouraging the community to maintain the natural environment for the benefit of visitors.

We stay in a pension that sources its supplies locally, use local transfer services rather than larger Poprad-based companies, and employ the services of guides from the areas we visit, all of which generates money for the local economy. The group’s activities have a low impact on the environment, and our operator rents all equipment locally. These aspects contribute to the continuation of the community itself, by creating jobs and offering career prospects to local people, who may otherwise be tempted to move to a larger town or city in search of employment.

Group size
We operate small group tours that have a low impact on the communities we visit and we always ensure our operations do not disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people. This allows us to stay in unique and characterful accommodation that would not have benefitted from tourism due to their limited size.

Activity
Our selection of alternative winter activities seeks to make the most of the natural environment in its pristine state, rather than changing it. Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and dogsledding are best suited to remote wilderness areas and the development of these alternatives is key to the long-term survival of many mountain communities

Winter activity week in Poland and Slovakia

Reviewed 07 Feb 2010 by Jennifer Crosby4 star rating

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Hard to pick a single part! The fact that we tried a new activity every day made the whole week really exciting!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

If you've not done downhill skiing before, do book some lessons while you are there - we really benefitted from them!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes - we did almost everything locally, giving our business to the local village, including all our equipment hire and meals. Our guide Peter did a wonderful job of educating us on Slovakian culture and lifestyle, so we had a good appreciation for where we were. We didn't do a huge amount of driving as everything was very local, and we kept to marked trails and ski areas so as not to disturb areas we should not be in.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent - we had a fabulous time!
