The area of The Soca Valley is a superb example of local people working together to ensure that the local environment, which is the lifeblood of their economy, is protected against the influx of mass tourism. The River Soca is so clean that you can simply drink from its clear waters without fear. Building is strictly controlled and there is only one hotel in the town of Tolmin, which by definition regulates the amount of tourism which the area sustains annually.
In Slovenia we actively encourage the development of the training of local guides who receive their diplomas from the University of Ljubljana. Our presence allows these guides to develop their international language skills through constant interaction with our groups.
Tolmin itself lies on the edge of the Triglav National Park and taking clients there on one activity day we educate them in how tourism can impact on the ecology of the region if not managed carefully.
The founder of this company gave up his job as a stockbroker who made rich people richer, put a tent and sleeping bag on the back of his bicycle and went travelling. When he returned home he decided to do what he loved best and retrain so that he could set up an activity holiday company. He believes holidays spent lying on a beach gently grilling under a roasting sun are all very well but the memories from awesome experiences in stunning locations, such as white water rafting in the Pyrenees or dog sledding in Lapland, will last far longer than any sun tan.

You can trust responsibletravel.com reviews because, unlike many other schemes, reviews can ONLY be written by people who we have verified have been on the holidays. In addition, we don't run these holidays ourselves - our only interest is giving you the best independent advice.
