How this holiday makes a difference

Ashanti artisans are self-employed and have limited access to overseas markets. Running workshops and welcoming guests into their villages provides an important additional income to help them keep their crafts alive.

We have worked with villagers to develop these workshops and community tours to give you a real insight into their lives - not just a view from the bus window. You will work in the village workshops - sometimes outdoors in the shade of a tree, or in the courtyard of a house - and receive tuition directly from the crafts people.

Tours and informal and we encourage personal engagement with the communities we visit. You will have the opportunity to shop, cook, and eat with the villagers.

The tours allow visitors to appreciate the skills of the indigenous artists and crafts people, and to interact with them as guests learning from the artists. Guests are encouraged to share their own craft skills.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

What I liked most was the mixture of what we did and what we saw – people, culture, crafts and history. Besides Ghana being a wonderful country, I love to remember our trip through the rain forest: where I failed to climb a rock using a liana, where we tried the fresh flesh of coffee bean and finally enjoyed a trip in a dugout canoe. Also I remember our drumming lesson at Lake Bosomtwe, where the whole village was trying to teach us drumming. And one of my favourite memories was breakfast in Koforidua at a small breakfast stand on the streets.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Simply book today and go on a tour with John. You will not regret this holiday at all. In case you have any ideas what you would like to see and what is not in the official tour program just talk to John and you will see many things are possible.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes, I did. While at the tour, we visited locals and especially craftsmen directly at the places the live and work.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

5 stars - I am reborn! Simply the best holiday I have ever been on.

Just to let you know that we have just returned from an amazing holiday in Ghana which we shall remember for a long time organised by John Haigh of the operator. A group of nine family members spent ten days in three locations of Ghana and had a very well organised and memorable holiday.
