Small group family holiday
This is a 'small group family adventure' - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves. Most adventure kids tend to be aged between 7 and 15, but some are younger (minimum age is usually 5) and some older (perhaps travelling as part of a larger family group). Please check with the operator to confirm the minimum age for this trip

How this holiday makes a difference

Following the 2004 tsunami, we shipped out urgent supplies of clothing and bedding to support affected communities and founded the construction of a community hall for the fishing communities in Ranong Province.

To ensure the welfare of the elephants we ride, we allow a maximum of 2 passengers per elephant. We use locally owned village houses, ensuring that our visit is of economic benefit to the community.

This is also an ideal opportunity to get to know the local people and about their lifestyle. We stay with families from different Hill tribes, and the intercultural mixing works in both directions, enabling both cultures to learn more about each other.

Our Tour Leaders are all trained by us in the importance of responsible tourism with guidance given on how they can make a difference. This then percolates down through those they deal with.

As well as the above, we support a variety of charities and projects worldwide which support vulnerable communities and habitats including Friends of Conservation, Hope Worldwide and Send A Cow. We are also actively engaged with UK travel industry bodies which promote best practice in responsible tourism, such as Tourism Concern, The Travel Foundation and AITO. Our commitment to responsible tourism is not limited to our overseas operation and we have measures to ensure our UK office operates according to our responsible tourism policy. Carbon offsets for all flights booked with us are included in the tour cost.

Story of the holiday provider

This small group operator is just celebrating its 30th year and was originally set up to enrich people’s lives through adventure travel. The directors have roots in overland trucking and are determined to keep a pioneering spirit alive. They believe what sets them apart is the strong relationships they’ve developed with local suppliers and tour guides over the years. A tour leader who thinks creatively can turn a good experience into a fantastic one and open up a place so that travellers gain insight into a completely different way of life. They operate in many different countries and try to avoid a blanket approach – their aim is to get customers involved in the projects they visit and to forge lifelong friendships.

Northern Thailand family holiday

Reviewed 27 Aug 2010 by Sabine Callens4 star rating

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

What we liked the most was the variation in the program - culture - nature - sports (could have been little bit more) - homestay - and definitely NOT to forget the Thai cooking!! People were extremely friendly. We definitely also enjoyed the busy life in Bangkok next to the quietness of the rafthouses - the serenity of foodgiving to the monks - the fireflies at night ....

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Do not take too much luggage with you! There are opportunities to get your laundry done for extreme low prices twice during the trip!! Leave the cycling helmets at home!! I carried them around for 2 weeks!! The helmets they provide are definitely fine!!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Definitely since the guides are local - system of tipping is being organised - family stay made us understand bit more of how they live!!

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Overall rating is 4 stars - my booking experience however was a complete nightmare since UK organisation forced me to book through Belgian agency which were utmost unprofessional and extremely rude!! Since I am Belgian we had no other choice …but will never do that again ... sorry!! But apart from that everything went smooth - also organisation of different transports we used was done professionally - never had to wait long …It was an unforgettable adventure! And our local guide did her utmost to make all comfortable for everybody!! Good job!!
