Small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.

How this holiday makes a difference

Experience Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam through the eyes of locals, as your tour leaders gives you a first-hand insight into the colourful and diverse tapestry that makes up their homeland. Wandering around the amazing Angkor complex in Cambodia gives travellers an awareness of these important and yet fragile cultural relics and the importance of them being preserved and protected, so that they can be experienced and appreciated by future generations.

The concept of tourism in Vietnam and Cambodia, in particular, is fairly recent when compared to other countries in Asia and to support programs there, this operator is training their tour leaders on a variety of issues, from environmental awareness to First Aid. This not only assists in the conduct of a tour but also provides leaders with important life skills. By only employing tour leaders born and bred in the regions they visit, they are supporting local economies. Through offering employment and steady revenue, tourism can ultimately make a real positive difference to local communities. They are also involved in assisting a number of community projects in Vietnam aimed at bettering the standard of living for many of the local people. One of these causes is the Loreto Vietnam-Australia Project, based in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), which provides shelter for street kids and has also established a school for the blind.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The whole holiday was wonderful, memorable experience. However, the culture and people of Cambodia touched my heart in a very special way. Thanks to our guide, Channy, our small group had a chance to visit Angkor temples in times when they were not overcrowded and in several temples I had the feeling we had a time on our own to really "feel" the amazing Angkor spirit. Many more memorable scenes: the amazing sunrise on Mekong, homestay in Vinh Long; view of Chao Praya from Wat Arun; giggling of Vietnam girls in local coffee bar; traditional Cambodian dance, the amazingly warm smiles on peoples faces...

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Our travel was really a small group holiday - only 7 of us. It enabled us to really enjoy every part of it. However, I believe it is really important to join the group with joy and open heart and enjoy the unique experience. Being a part of really wonderful group enriched me as much as the travel itself. Pack really light: sturdy but light walking shoes or trekking sandals are suitable for the whole trip, t-shirts and light 3/4 trousers, swimming suit... everything else can be purchased locally. In addition, I recommend spending couple of days in Bangkok - the city itself has a lot to offer, but close surrounding is also worth exploring (ex. Kanchananburi, Ayutthaya) as well as in HCMC.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

The immediate beneficiaries were our tour guides and drivers, as well as owners of fishing farm, orchid, homestay etc. The local transport was used whenever it was available and suitable (Bangkok part, ferry on Mekong).

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Really, really wonderful. For me, this trip was perfect in more than one way: I was introduced to three very different, beautiful countries and their friendly and smiling people; I was a part of a great group, which certainly magnified the joy of such an experience. I was surprised by the high class of hotels - very comfortable and really classy. From my point, I would have enjoyed the experience the same if we were accommodated in less luxurious hotels... It is the people who made this experience unforgettable.
