The marine foundation is in the process of collecting materials and information to take to the Government regarding trawler fishing in the bay. They want to force the government to change the laws of fishing the area, so that the marine life can be saved. The bay is vital to whale breeding and the survival of the endangered Great White Shark and Humpback Dolphin. The programme gives back to the community by training and employing local workers as rangers and guides at the reserve. They also employ local staff at the accommodation and the crèche.
All volunteers are given a responsible travel briefing upon arrival as part of their orientation. The students are expected to walk to and from the reserve every day. The walk is around 30 mins; this due to the new carbon balancing scheme that the foundation has in place. The reserve has also started a ‘Carbon Zero’ programme, where volunteers will be planting trees to combat carbon omissions. The student accommodation holds a maximum of 10 volunteers, creating a minimal impact on the local surroundings.

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
