Small group family holiday
This is a 'small group family adventure' - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves. Most adventure kids tend to be aged between 7 and 15, but some are younger (minimum age is usually 5) and some older (perhaps travelling as part of a larger family group). Please check with the operator to confirm the minimum age for this trip

How this holiday makes a difference

As a long serving operator to the Himalayas we are extremely well equipped to operate this trip is such a way that reduces impacts on the ground and to give as much back as possible to the local communities As part of this trip you will be able to visit the Narva Kiran orphanage. Since 2002 we have supported the orphanage in various ways, with our staff helping with renovations and taking the kids out for picnics in our own expedition vehicles. Unfortunately in the later part of 2004 it became clear that the orphans were in danger of losing their home and so we embarked on a much bigger project to help provide a new and long term roof over their heads.

Whilst on this trip you will also be able to visit the Chitwan National Park. By paying to enter this National park you are helping to conserve the destination and the local elephant population. We have had a long-term relationship with the operator thereby stabilising the income generation and creating a more sustainable future. All of our Nepalese leaders are extremely concerned and are always involved in responsible tourism. Once out there you will see that much of the project work done by our selves and other companies are more often than not driven by the local leaders. We have worked with our operator to help train staff in all aspects of their jobs, thereby investing in the people to help improve their knowledge and future prospects. This included Responsible Tourism training.

We use predominantly locally owned and run mountain lodges on this trip. This contributes directly to the local communities as local staff are employed and locally produced and sourced goods are bought for the accommodation benefiting the wider community. Whilst on this trip you may have the chance to see one of our new solar cookers in action. We are helping lodges and Tea houses, all over the Himalaya region, in stall solar cookers to use along side there existing methods. These stoves dramatically reduce the amount of electricity and fire wood used, with immediate benefits for the local communities.

We have at our offices worked to reduce our carbon footprint through a reduction of energy use and energy conservation measures. We also actively reduce the waste produced by having active reduction and recycling policies in place. We run annual staff workshops on Responsible Tourism. Global warming is a reality and to help you make a difference by reducing the carbon dioxide that is produced when you travel we offer a chance to carbon balance your flights. We encourage all our clients to do this and do so for all our staff travel. Go on do your bit!

Story of the holiday provider

The sales manager of this small group operator can still remember watching his first charging elephant in Africa with his father when he was 9 years old. He believes the world is the greatest classroom. A surprising amount of the staff, as well as some customers, have met their partners on trips and many have teenagers and younger children. They actually go on the holidays they provide with their families and so know exactly what works and what doesn’t. These active holidays will broaden your children’s horizons as well as ensure they sleep at the end of the day.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Whilst being upgraded to business class was a huge bonus(!!) there were many other memorable parts of this trip. The main being the fantastic local guides and staff that are employed throughout the trip. We felt entirely safe at all times even ion the notorious roads! Lhakpa was our main guide for the trip. Throughout the trip Lhakpa's local knowledge of all things Sherpa along with his calmness, cheerful and encouraging humour and equal care for everyone on the trip was truly wonderful. You pack so much into this trip with such variety; rafting after my initial nerves, was exhilarating; Pokhara was wonderfully chilled out place; mountain biking around Pokhara lake was a great afternoon; trekking, well worth the effort especially the first time I saw the wonderful panorama of snow capped mountains with my own eyes; seeing a 12hr old tiger paw print ...(well it was as close as we got to a real tiger!!!). In Chitwan, bathing the elephants, swimming in the river where the crocs lived etc.. I could go on and on....It is a great trip and I would not hesitate in recommending it, many thanks.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Travel light-think about the porters who will carry YOUR bags for you! Take pens and exercise books for the orphanage if you can. Take warm yet lightweight clothes for the cool evenings and some good strong mozzy repellent. I had no problems but sometimes there can be some in Chitwan.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Definitely! The best local guides, porters & drivers in the area are used. Locally owned teahouses, restaurants etc are used which all helps. The company is extremely aware of any negative impacts on the environment that they love, and do try to gently educate travellers on route. As such, they have introduced many solar panels & stoves and helped install many across the Himalayas.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

It was an awesome experience, very friendly people and enthusiastic & knowledgeable staff.
