Travelling with a local operator
This holiday is operated by a company based in the holiday destination and they will be able to provide expert local knowledge. They will be able to tailor make your holiday to suit your requirements not only concerning the dates of travel but also typically the standard of accommodation, and thus price. It is rare for local operators to be able to help with the booking of your flights.

How Rajasthan Palaces & Beach holiday in Goa makes a difference

This tour is very carefully designed by the local travel specialist many of whom have converted their heritage buildings into a hotel now. All drivers are local in the Goa and Rajasthan sector. We use local owned and staffed restaurants and accommodation.

The hotel which we are using in Goa is just a ground and one floor building which gives it a very personal, relaxed and private feeling instead of staying in a multi floor hotel.

We use only local guides as we feel that in Rajasthan one should have a local guide who can share his knowledge with the tourist as, in India the culture, caste and the language changes every 100km, and it becomes necessary to have local guides everywhere.

All our accommodations which we have carefully chosen are environmentally friendly and use CFL lamps for lighting to save electricity. Many of our accommodation grow their own vegetable for their daily needs in their own gardens and most of the Heritage hotels recycle waste water for gardening purposes.

On this trip we support an NGO called Jagrit who are involved in giving education, accommodation, clothing and food to small children who are found begging in railway stations. An amount of £5 per person goes to this NGO.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Aside from seeing all the amazing sights - which was a given of course, our last chauffer / driver made our experience a much more memorable one as he helped us through a lot and made it much more manageable to deal with the difficult situations. His name is Shankar and he was great.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Beware of the so called "Heritage Hotels". While they may sound charming and historical, many of them are old and dirty - nothing has been done in 20 years - not at all western standards. We were very disappointed in the selection of hotels that the local travel agent chose for us. Some were just plain disgusting that we could not stay there. We had to change hotels three times - each time the local agent was not at all helpful and was in fact rude to our complaints that the hotel was not suitable. These hotels would not even suit a backpacker let alone a couple in their 40s who are much more used to staying at Taj. We cannot and will not ever recommend this operator to our friends. They were absolutely horrible as well as their hotel selection. In fact, it was obvious that they have never visited nor have received feedbacks from other client regarding the condition of these hotels.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

If it did it certainly was not obvious to us. It was in fact disgusting that even though our tour included all guided tours, the guides each time tried to charge us extra until we reminded them that our tour included all guided tours.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

In one of the hotels we left as it was so dirty, the agent refused to give us a refund. Instead we had to pay out of our own pocket the two nights for a new hotel which was much more suitable. I think given the condition of the hotel we should get a refund for these two nights to at least compensate for the two nights that we had to pay ourselves. The hotel was in Jodhpur. Disgusting!!!!

Read the operator's response here:

We communicated for a long time to decide on all the accommodations and before taking the booking they were well informed about the accommodations and we gave them the website address of all the hotels. Heritage Hotels are old and they just cannot be compared with modern buildings, one should have a mindset to stay in these kind of accommodations. Previously we have used the same hotels for all our overseas clients & in fact they gave us very good feedback. We did refund Rs.7500.00 for two nights & we tried to refund more but it is subject to the cancellation policy of individual hotels & one just cannot cancel the hotels overnight. At Karni Bhawan Jodhpur the clients did not even see the room properly & they wanted to change the hotel, as they preferred to stay in a centrally located Hotel... so this was their choice. I spoke to them on every occasion whenever they wanted so it is strange that they are complaining that we were rude. In almost 2 complete years of working with responsibletravel.com we have never experienced such kind of response it is really depressing.
