How this holiday makes a difference

Global adventures start with a local perspective – that's our philosophy. Whether abroad, or just as importantly at home, the start point is the same; how to create a sense of well-being and enjoyment in the holiday, while benefiting the local people, economy and respecting the environment.

Walking is a great way to explore a country, travelling at a speed that enables you to be immersed in nature, meeting local people without damaging the environment and the culture.

As guides, we set an example, trying our best to leave the smallest footprint as possible.

Environmentally:
• We limit printing on paper and recycle as much as possible.
• We don’t buy over-packed products.
• We buy fresh local products, aware of travel miles.
• Our picnic sets are re-usable.
• We try to reduce water, energy and fuel consumption
• We use bio-degradable products as much as possible.
• Use our bikes for shorter distance travel.

From an economical perspective our policies are:
• Work with local people with fair wages.
• Buy local in small family run shops.
• We select family run accommodation, farm stays “agriturismi” and small “pensioni” with their own responsible policies.
• Never negotiate local prices.

Also, our group sizes never exceed 12 people, in order to give our travellers the possibility to experience Sardinia in a relaxing way. Our friendly and easy going approach ensures a good personal relationship with every member of the group, combined with being able to participate and connect with the local culture, provides a richer holiday
experience.

Travellers on our Sardinia holidays are provided with our Travellers Codes that encourage the reduction of water usage, systems for collecting, recycling or safe disposal of litter and relevant suggestions to minimise damage to the environment, wildlife and marine ecosystems.

Story of the holiday provider

Having stayed in touch since primary school, Andy and Paul decided to cycle around South America in 1994. Andy was a keen cyclist but Paul hadn’t been on a bike since doing his paper round. They didn’t have an itinerary and used military maps to navigate through the desert. They had so much fun and met such amazing people that they agreed to set up a cycling tour company together. Andy says their trips create a flexible and intimate way to travel and absorb the local culture and, whats more, you never forget how to cycle – it’s just like riding a bike!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

I would say the most exciting points were arriving at the agritourism each night and realising that we'd walked such a long way. The view from the highest point was fantastic and with air so pure we could see for miles. Scenery was stunning as was the variety of vegetation and rock formations.

I would also add that the food was excellent and the agritourism make a big effort to use locally sourced produce and to cook typical dishes.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

I would definitely recommend taking a pedometre and don't rely on one that is on your mobile phone.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

As walking in the countryside we came across few people - and when we did came across a shop or kiosk they were closed - but the agritourism were run by locals so I guess of some benefit to local economy.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Everything went well, the team were really pleasant and helpful. Only comment would be that you really do need a pedometre (the APP on the blackberry did not always work) and sometimes instructions difficult to understand - maybe we've a joint bad sense of direction but got lost every day!

Would highly recommend the holiday - a good challenge and great fun.
