How this holiday makes a difference

This tour gives you an opportunity to discover three beautiful Nordic capitals by yourself in just 6 days. We use scheduled cruise ferry between Tallinn and Helsinki and public train between Helsinki and St. Petersburg and public coach between St.Petersburg Tallinn in order to avoid unnecessary pollution and also to give our guests a good opportunity to meet the locals. To make sure the money stays within the visited community we're using local transport companies.

You'll also receive an information pack containing information on vital data about all three destination countries – Estonia, Finland and Russia, including information about the countries social and political situation, plus the Traveller's Responsible Code of Conduct. All of this will be sent by e-mail to minimise the use of paper.

We also encourage our guests to read about the country before coming to find out more about their host communities and the environment so that they can connect better with the locals. We provide suggestions on how best to support the local economies and communities, as well as the surrounding environment. All of our staff, including your tour guide are aware of responsible travel policies and encourage our guests to make as positive influence on their holiday destination as possible to make the experience even more enjoyable in both directions.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

St Petersburg - a really spectacular city - so much to see and do - we had two and a half days there and while we did a lot in that time, we could easily have spent twice as long. Tallinn was beautiful and a delightful place to send a day.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Talk to the operator about spending longer in St Petersburg - we decided to fly back directly from St Petersburg rather than returning to Tallinn by coach. This made little difference to the cost but did give us longer in St Petersburg. If you're staying in the Hotel Moskva - which is where we stayed, there are some pretty good buses from just outside the hotel which go to the Fontanka - the 27 was a good choice and a round trip would take you past many of the key sites and stops outside the Marinsky theatre if you're luck enough to get tickets.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

This wasn't really oriented towards the environment, but the holiday itself tended to relay heavily on local providers rather than multinational chains.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

A great trip - we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the travel arrangements that were made for us worked really well. Although the first part (day in Tallinn and day in Helsinki) sounds quite hectic, we felt we had enough time in both cities and we did not feel as rushed as we had initially expected. The tour company in Tallinn were very helpful and very efficient!
