How this holiday makes a difference

Ghana does not have a significant tourist industry in the areas we visit. We will be supporting the first developments of tourist infrastructure which are designed around community run facilities, whose income goes back into the community.

The local cycle guides collect rubbish and employ local villagers to maintain the trails and remove litter. Waste is recycled, for example bottled water is provided and the bottles reused by local villages for storing products such as palm oil and palm wine.

The cycling centre also donates money and goods towards funeral rites, and we help to repair the roads and byways. We also donate towards some of the villages social functions such as the local festivals, and sometimes send bed sheets and medicine to some of the very deprived areas. The tourists also often donate in a similar way.

We also organize a forum with the local community to advise the local people on how to improve the environment in order to minimize any harm to the eco-systems. The Aburi accommodation is at Tumu Lodge. Here they practice water conservation and recycling. have a composting unit and compost all organic waste, run an organic vegetable farm and use solar energy.

As it is a cycle holiday vehicle use is minimal but our preferred vehicles for transfer from the airport and between centres run on LPG which until recently was flared off as waste in Nigeria.

Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
