Nkambeni Lodge:
- Nkambeni Tented Lodge is dedicated to the upliftment of the Swazi community;
- The camp is situated on land belonging to the local Mhaule tribe;
- The lodge represents local community upliftment, providing sustainable employment and management opportunities to the community. Employees are selected from local families, creating a wider scope for income in the community;
- The lodge is dedicated to two local schools. A feeding programme is run at the schools for the children, feeding nearly a thousand school children every day;
- Nkambeni Tented Lodge is active in assisting the schools with vegetable gardens for production of their own food. We also now sponsor the outfits of the local Numbi soccer club;
- Construction at Nkambeni Tented Lodge conforms to the highest standards of low impact eco-friendly criteria. No concrete and no foundations means no damage to the ecology of the area. In addition, all materials used to build the units is biodegradable, with only 2 structures built from brick and cement;
- Nkambeni has a waste recycle program, getting the community involved for further upliftment;
- Nkambeni Tented Lodge is located inside the Kruger National Park, and conform to National Park regulations with regard to preserving the environment.
Chimp Eden:
- With each purchase from the souvenir shop, a percentage is donate to conservation efforts and African sanctuary support;
- Local community members are employed both in the lodge and at the Chimpanzee facility;
- We strive to support local entrepreneurs and to arrange all our purchases locally where this is possible;
- We maintain a private nature reserve on the property, thus ensuring the stability of the soil and the environment;
- JGI Chimpanzee Eden is a home to chimpanzees that have been misplaced from their natural habitat. The world renowned Jane Goodall Institute has made this tranquil venue their South African sanctuary and has committed itself to the rescue and care take of chimpanzees in need of refuge. Being the 1st and only chimpanzee sanctuary in South Africa, this venue will be able to bring the world of chimpanzees closer to humanity through education, tourism and modern technology.
