How this holiday makes a difference

We offer you a unique way to offset your carbon by using pollution-free bicycles. Travelling by bike, you are no longer an observer you are a peaceful and friendly actor of local people, environment and culture.

You will be cycling on “Greenways” where no motorized traffic is allowed. The most part follows canal towpaths but also vineyard paths, disused railway lines and little country roads. During this tour you will get the best out of fine local produce – tasting Burgundy's exceptional wines and the tasty, authentic cuisine.

Relying on local guides and family-owned hotels, you will be ensured a warm, personalized welcome. All properties are run by people who have a passion for their region and its cultural, gastronomic, and historical heritage. We use genuine places with local charm, blending harmoniously into the environment. Our hotels offer guests a pleasant, nice-sized environment. Some of them have as few as two rooms, while others are small human-sized hotels.

We are based in France. This is where we live and work. Our office is located in the French Alps, just a stones throw from the Swiss border, and we ride the very same roads we recommend to you for your cycling vacations. As firm believers of sustainable development, we have established a friendly network of professionals, comprised mainly of local tour guides, small operators, and family-run agencies. Most of our people have created their own jobs/enterprises in order to live their passion for the region and cultural heritage. All have extensive travel experience and have lived in various places before falling in love with the area they now call home.

Traveling with us guarantees that you will be taken care of by caring professionals who chose to build their lives here. Forget the non-descript and indistinguishable big chain hotels; we use genuine places with local charm. All the properties we use are run by people who have a passion for their region and its cultural, gastronomic, and historical heritage.'

We recommend travel by train, a much more eco-friendly solution. To travel within Europe, we recommend taking trains over renting cars, or air transports. Trains are more energy-efficient and will minimize the CO2 emission by capita. When flying is required, prefer an airline that contributes to funds aimed at offsetting carbon emissions.

In cities, we recommend clients to use public transportations, or to walk or bike. City bike rentals are more and more widely available in big and medium-sized cities across Europe they are the best way to get around congested cities. Our travel tips include a list of renters.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Cycling at our own pace through stunning, varied countryside and finding places
that we would have missed in a car.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be prepared for more than just undulating vineyards - there are some hills and
you should have a decent level of fitness. (However, we managed and are in our
more senior years!) The hire bikes were excellent, sturdy machines and there was
technical back-up if required. (Luckily not needed! )

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Staying at comfortable, delightful hotels and friendly guest houses, eating the
local produce with helpful hosts, stopping in villages to sample the wine. We
also had the pleasure of efficient trains to reach Beaune to start the tour.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

The holiday was superb. Everything was well-organised with a varied itinerary and
just the right length.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Sarlat - we just loved wandering around the medieval part of town.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Pack as light as possible, but for all temps (the caves were quite cold). If you want to visit lots of attractions, you'd need to be a very strong rider to have enough time to do this.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Absolutely.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Almost perfect...4 1/2 stars. Just a couple of comments if you want to make this a 5 star holiday: A map of Rocamadour showing where our hotel was (as it wasn't actually in Rocamadour) - we got one a map soon as we arrived at the Tourist centre, but it took us a while to find that, and even then finding the hotel took us a while! Also, the restaurant in Rocamadour (Chateau), had our reservations, but got our bill wrong 2 nights in a row (kept trying to charge us for dinner). It might have helped with this particular restaurant to have a voucher. All the other eating establishments were fabulous. The hotel in Souillac (St Martin's) was *absolutely* gorgeous, and we loved it our 1st night there (it was cooler), but when the temperatures went up a week later, not having air conditioning at the same hotel made it quite uncomfortable. Since I was ill and unable to cycle this time, we just rented a car and drove. Since the distances were so close we had lots of time to explore all he sights. We enjoyed the area so much though, that we will most probably book this same vacation again and actually cycle it the next time :)
