Big cat specialist

Typically trips are expertly guided by a leading specialist with a good knowledge of the area to be visited. The Big Cats and other resident wildlife are the main focus of attention however most trips also incorporate other fauna and flora highlights of the destination as well. Our trips use local guides and experts and contribute to local conservation projects whenever possible.

How Tiger safari in India, Corbett National Park makes a difference

As this safari suggests, you spend a lot of your time exploring the jungles on elephant back. These animals have been trained and are owned by local mahouts who benefit directly by your visit. By using elephants you also minimize your carbon emissions. India is a rapidly growing nation and living space for humans is limited and so encroachment into the national parks in evident unless tourism in these areas benefits the local communities. For this reason we use local representatives, guides and staff throughout the safari.

The tiger is a highly endangered animal and unless we preserve its environment and also prove to the local communities that they do generate income for them, we may loose this remarkable animal. By you visiting these areas on this safari you contribute to the survival of the tiger.

We aim to minimise our impact on the environment as much in the UK as we would do in any of our destination countries. We do this through recycling of any office waste including, paper, plastic, cans, glass, refuse, in partnership with the Borough of Brighton and Hove. The purpose of our safaris is to contribute to local populations, communities and projects. We give our travellers advice on how to interact with the local population, flora and fauna in order to minimise any negative impact. We advise people not to bargain just for the sake of it and because it is the “thing to do”; you should pay what you feel the object is worth to yourself and the vendor, bearing in mind local cultures, society and standard of living.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Seeing a tiger really clearly when on elephant back.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Check details of the lodges before booking. The road to Hideaway River lodge was destroyed 2 years ago by a flood so jeeps cannot access this lodge. It also destroyed the grasslands by the river. Now you have 1.5 km walk across boulders and have to cross the river by stepping stones and then a canoe. Travellers should be informed of this.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

The forest lodges were environmentally very good. Many local people are employed in the tiger reserve.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Exciting and memorable.

We are glad that you had an enjoyable trip! Seeing a tiger in the wild on elephant back is truly a wildlife highlight and a real privilege. As specialists in this area, thankfully to date we have only ever had one client that has not successfully seen a tiger in the wild when travelling with us!

Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the walk into camp. We generally find this to be a nice surprise as it is not often that you get to walk in this type of habitat in India's forests and it is quite a fun way to arrive into camp. We will however endeavour to make this more clear in our travel notes for this trip in the future.

As ever thank you for your constructive comments and please do not hesitate to get in touch if we can ever assist you again with your future travel plans.
