Your hotel in Cartagena employs locally sourced staff, as do we for all your tours and other such excursions. Employing local people will allow you to step out of the tourist bracket, and discover much more of this city than usually possible. Equally important to us is giving these staff the opportunity to earn money, improve their English and show off their home to you. They are immensely proud of their city, making them extremely good at their job, energetic and fun.
All food and materials on Baru are sourced locally where possible, the pousada being a valuable customer to these locals. The fish for dinner will have been caught by fishermen earlier that day and vegetables come from local gardens.
The small size of the pousada (only three rooms), also means that it has a minimum environmental impact on its beautiful surroundings, as well as allowing a more personal involvement with the local staff.
Part of the cost of your holiday goes towards the planting of 20 hard wood trees in the Mata Atlantica, under the guidance of R.E.G.U.A. (Reserva Ecologica de Guapi Assu) who protect one of the last stands of primary tropical rainforest left in the severely depleted Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil.
