Trail and Fell Running Holidays in French Alps
How Trail and Fell Running Holidays in French Alps makes a difference
Environment
We respect and support local conservation / erosion projects by following guidelines issued by the Ecrins National Park and ensuring our clients are made aware of any specific guidelines that may affect them.
We work with the city of Gap and its partners, which in organising these races, give an opportunity to hundreds of participants to experience the natural beauty and environment of the Gapençais valley.
We work together to with these organisations to try to keep the impact that the Gapencimes Race and the UltraChampsaur have on the mountain trails and surrounding flora and fauna to a minimum. The routes often take already well marked walking trails to reduce the extent of erosion and runners are made aware of the importance of not straying from the marked paths or dropping rubbish or other waste.
Some of the drinks and snacks for the refreshment stops are brought up the mountain on the back of a donkey and a proportion of these are local organic products. In addition, re-usable cups are used at the refreshment stops.
All accommodation suppliers are vetted according to their professionalism and their approach to responsible tourism (using local produce, respect for the environment and promoting the culture of the region).
We support and encourage car-sharing and provide a bus to take all supporters up together to watch the race.
We don’t print brochures and keep paper use to a minimum in the office preferring electronic distribution as our main means of communication with clients.
Community
We work together with the city of Gap - the capital of the Hautes Alpes region, the office municipal de sports and the 4th Regiment de Chasseurs to promote the Gapencimes Trail Race. This race gives an opportunity to hundreds of participants and supporters to experience the natural beauty and environment of the Gapençais valley and surrounding area and we take care to promote the local conservation efforts and guidelines that are stipulated by the community to our clients.
By using local providers, money from tourism is put back into the local community and encourages growth within the local economy. Organic products from local suppliers are brought in to stock the refreshment stops.
The races encourages participation from locals and tourists alike and the friendly, supportive atmosphere of the competition helps to build and encourage good relationships between locals and visitors.
We use local, friendly accommodation providers who are vetted to ensure the accommodation provided is to a suitable standard and who use local products in their restaurants.
