Wildlife holiday in Patagonia
Typically trips are expertly guided by a leading specialist with a good knowledge of the area to be visited. Inevitably, wildlife is the main focus of attention however, the aim will be to incorporate all other aspects of the natural world in an attempt to be as broad-minded as possible. A local guide may often accompany trips.
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
In 2007 we celebrated 10 years of spectacular achievement as pioneers in the field of nature travel. As we approach our 15th birthday, our commitment to the principle of ‘conservation travel to protect’ remains steadfast.
We have raised significant funds in support of the world’s leading wildlife and conservation agencies, researchers and experts, and increased awareness of travel and conservation through newsletters, lectures and consistent media coverage. Furthermore, we have voluntarily spearheaded collective action campaigns such as Travel Operators for Tigers in South Asia.
This trip also supports the Sociedad Naturalista Andino Patagonica (SNAP) a local, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting knowledge and enjoyment of the environment, its flora and fauna. It also promotes scientific investigation, environmental education and good use of natural resources following the IUCN guidelines. The organisation also works with local communities towards social and productivity development and promotion of good land use aiding to conservation.
Community
This trip is run by a local Argentinean condor expert along with, on occasion, local guides. You stay in local, Argentinean hotels, as well as visiting local estancias and eating locally grown and raised produce. The trip also visits the Ecocentro Foundation which supports local scientific, cultural, educational and conservation work. The donation to SNAP (see environment section) also contributes through educational programmes, scientific investigation and natural resource management, to increasing the quality of life of the people living in the watershed areas of Patagonia where SNAP work.
Our travel partners, accommodation, service providers and ground agents are all carefully chosen to ensure their commitment to the environment, most being quality, family owned businesses – reflecting the unique character of the places, the abiding hospitality of its people and the remarkable spirit of its wilderness.
