Family sea kayaking holiday in Scotland
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Our accommodation is based at the Glenuig Inn, a 400-year-old remote Highland inn and is one of Scotland’s most environmentally friendly hotels. The rural hotel which is locally-owned has slashed energy costs by up to 75 per cent and switched to sustainable energy sources. Among the Glenuig’s arsenal of energy saving technologies are under floor heating, wood stoves, heat stores, heat exchangers and “software enabled” LED lighting. Like any business we cannot eliminate our consumption of energy altogether, what we do instead is financially offset our carbon emissions by 110% through Climate Care.
All of our guides are advocates of the Wildlife Safe (WiSe) and Leave No Trace training schemes. Our business is approved through the Wildlife Safe training scheme and has agreed to adhere to the Scottish Marine Wildlife Watching Code which ensures that we work safely and sustainably within the marine environment. The Leave No Trace scheme encourages responsible, non-motorized outdoor activities (which sea kayaking is) with minimal impact on public recreational area.
During the course of the trip our clients engage with the issues which affect our fragile environment and the guides provide education-involved leadership, assisting the clients' understanding of the marine environment and the challenges which it faces and the importance of Leave No Trace and the Marine Wildlife Watching Code.
Community
We work with local guides who grew up in the area and who live within 15 minutes of the area in which we operate. The accommodation provides locally sourced produce, for example fish, which is normally straight out of the fishing boat.
