Luxury wilderness cruise in Western Australia
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
The nature of our operations do not impact on terrestrial environment – no need for land based structures – ‘leave nothing but footprints’ motto onboard. We make significant contribution to parks & wildlife management via license fees and feedback.
An onboard Naturalist promotes protection of wildlife and national parks and educates crew & guests. Detailed walking guidelines are in place which comply to National Park guidelines. Onboard briefings are regular.
We use the helicopter to minimize disruption and imprint on the surrounding habitat and it only lands at suitable areas & guests walk to the more delicate areas. The helicopter pilots have spent many, many years flying in the Kimberley and are very aware & experienced about the habitat around them. Not only a wealth of information, they are also very conscious of minimizing any disruption to the local environment. As far as the rest of the Kimberley is concerned we have walking briefs before each walk now by the naturalist and up to 4-5 presentations on the area ranging from rock art, flora, fauna and geology. As you know we operate ashore as a no footprint operation and as much as possible the area is left the way we found it. The same tracks are always used to minimize disruption of delicate areas.
The ship has a minimal carbon footprint, and free transfers to & from the vessel lessens the amount of transport required by guests.
Community
Being a small local town our embarkation/disembarkation point in Broome helps the community in many ways – employment, use of town services, purchaser of local goods & supplies (fuel, produce, housekeeping, stationary etc), monies spent in the township from both guests & crew, pre & post accommodation for guests in local hotels, and marketing for future tourism.
We are a supporter of local community organisations such as Royal Flying Doctor Service.
