True ecotourism is not possible to get in many destinations: we provide you good conscience and it makes your trip perfect. Our concept is that we are not allowed to change nature - we just enjoy. While observing with skis or snowshoes you make minimum impact: the snow and ice covers everything and you leave no trace.
We pay a fee to Oulanka National Park for our every customer visiting the park. In addition we take part in nature protecting projects. Also you can donate to wilderness protection like our customers normally do. These three together made a sum more than €35000 during the last five years.
All our guides live in the area. They know fantastic local stories and explain to you the traditions of Oulanka National Park. Our guides are provided with the best possible (and very expensive) equipment. Our activities are safe although they are extreme. That is the reason you get equipment from us: we are able to rely on this equipment. From us you get everything you need for the winter activities. In our activities we implement latest achievements in order to avoid pollution - although this might bring us an extra cost, we believe it is worth it.
Accommodation with us is the most nature friendly accommodation possible. Our buildings are made of logs, which come from the forest only 50 km away from Basecamp, and concrete. Buildings are small and build in the traditional Finnish way. The heating system gets its energy from the local forests: we use waste wood in the form of wood pellets. This is the best heating system that is possible to have. And we even heat up our hot tub with this central heating system.
We do not change your sheets every morning - you have to get them for several days: like at your home. And water consumption is limited by our own well: the maximum to get out of that is 1 m3 per hour. You get more information about this in the briefing. You will be eating only local food prepared in our own kitchen. Our chef is excellent - as you will find out! Elk, salmon, white fish and vendace and of course we eat a lot of potatoes in Finland. You will be eating superfood like blueberries and cloudberries during your trip. Vegetarian food is also our normal food: there will be no pork or beef. Our tableware is designed and handmade in Finland specially for us.
When you are with us, you will learn many things that you can do differently at your home: shopping, recycling, behave in the nature, observe the nature. Small things that will take you deeper into the arms of Mother Nature.
