Hidden monasteries of Tibet tour
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends it's good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as experiencing new cultures.
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
All clients are briefed on relevant environmental issues at the commencement of the trip. This includes how to deal with the sensitive historical situation found in Tibet and how not to get locals into trouble. In Tibet we use, and encourage the increased use of, solar power which is particularly effective bearing in mind the altitude. In the UK we don’t produce glossy brochures and run an almost entirely paperless office – everything is done by email or online. Vegetarians are very welcome on all our tours, and despite Tibet being a difficult country to remain fish and meat free, vegetarian options are always available at the places where we eat.
Community
By travelling in a small group (maximum 12) we are able to eat at small restaurants and drink at local bars without impinging on the local community. Where possible we eat meals made with seasonal produce. This tour is lead by an experienced Mandarin and Tibetan-speaking tour leader from the UK with over 25 years experience of visiting Tibet and an English-speaking guide of Tibetan nationality. As well as guiding the group they will also help to explain the cultural background of this complex land. We thus gain a more intimate understanding of the culture we are travelling through. By using bilingual leaders we are also able to interact more closely with local people. Where possible we stay in Tibetan-owned hotels and employ Tibetan drivers and other staff. A percentage of the proceeds of this tour are donated to the Mitrata-Nepal Foundation for Children, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 2000, which provides shelter, medical care and educational opportunities for underprivileged children in Nepal.
