As part of our responsible travel policy we have kept away from the large resort of Sharm el Sheikh for our Egyptian adventure and instead focus on the smaller town of Dahab to the South.
Dahab is a town which has developed slowly and is globally known for watersports, it has escaped the large mass tourism of nearby resorts and this maintained a great deal of its Bedouin culture. We are very happy to be able to utilise locally owned accommodation in Dahab and local guides. This means that the economic benefit of tourism remains in the region rather than being leaked overseas by multi- national companies.
The hotels also provide a vital source of employment in the region and stops many young people from being forced to leave in search of a job enabling the heritage and traditions of the area to continue.
The area has a strictly managed policy on access to sites such as the Coloured Canyon which protects the local people’s role in operating the sites. For example each group must be accompanied by a local guide (even if they have their own tour guide). This safe guards the employment of the local people and allows them to impart their expertise. There are also restrictions on the number of people who are able to enter the historical or natural areas to ensure that they are sustained and protected for future generations.
The Bedouin culture is a key element in this holiday and we devote a day to the culture and the way of life of these nomadic people. It is important to us that our clients get away from tourist centres and meet with the local people in order to fully appreciate their destination.
We always encourage our clients to learn a few words of the local language and provide them with guidance on purchasing responsibly sourced and locally produced gifts and souvenirs throughout their stay.
We have a strict leave no trace policy on all activities and transfers are always made in group vehicles wherever possible to minimise transportation.
We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
