Environment
Organic Meals: Our meals are sourced directly from our Garden. Your food literally goes from the garden to your plate.
Keeping it Wild: As lovers of the outdoors, we also consider ourselves stewards. We seek the highest standard of Leave No Trace ethics and we hope that our clients will become stewards as well.
Work environment: By not using a formal office, we eliminate the need to waste natural resources. We don’t own a printer, we don’t need electricity to power office equipment, and we don’t have to commute to work.
Walk Lightly…: Our pond used to be a dump...literally. When it was dredged, out came bags and bags of garbage, empty cans, burned logs, stumps, whole treetops, a washtub, and a car! The underground spring that feeds it made the water level rise and the banks overflowed. And then along came the beaver. One day he appeared and began building his lodge. He mated and the family’s been there for 10 years now, working on the lodge and raising their young.
When a spillway was dug to keep the water level constant the beaver began damming it up and that’s when the symbiotic relationship began. Now every evening around sunset the beaver goes on patrol. He swims the perimeter of the pond and then gets down to work diving and pulling weeds to dam the spillway. Each morning we remove the organic matter from the spillway and add it to the compost. The beaver doesn’t seem to mind. He gets to do his work and his work benefits us. We get a clean pond...and so does he!
This story is one of many that have built the foundation for a Walking Lightly philosophy--the idea of humans and animals, wild and domestic, living in harmony, on the same land. Our needs and ideals need not be in opposition. In fact, the land can be better for everyone involved if we just pay attention and act mindfully. We want to share the experience of living in harmony with nature and wildlife at our Fitness Holiday.
Community
Community Involvement: We’ve partnered with Walking Lightly Ranch and provide community yoga events each month. Community members get to enjoy the Ranch, eat a gourmet vegan meal, and take part in a 2 hour yoga session priced at cost. These events have been a great way to share our philosophies and beliefs on sustainable living, healthy eating, and protecting the environment.
Supporting Local Charities: We are sponsoring a team in the 2011 Glacier Challenge which is a multi-sport relay race. All proceeds from the Glacier Challenge will benefit the Flathead Youth Home. Each year, this program cares for about 120 kids who are placed there when their own homes are no longer an option.
Keeping Jobs Local: We’re all about keeping it local and generating business in the community. Our trainers, yoga instructors, and chefs are all locals. We also have two volunteers that are able to spend their summer working with us.
