Environment
One of our main responsible policies is the protection of local environment and cultural heritage. Running this tour we try to minimise the impact on the visited areas and protect them by participation in the eco-campaigns of Let Nature Remain in Bulgaria. This hiking adventure trip is held in the two National Parks certified as Pan Parks and protected as areas of the disappearing European wilderness. The visitors will enjoy the Central Balkan National Park and Rila National Park, both protecting: brown bears, wolves, eagles, and chamois. During the hikes visitors enter into the wild parts of the mountain, passing though magnificent tourist-free areas of beech and pine forests. 10% of the trip price goes for the protection of the two Pan Parks.
Our reforestation project brings together nature conservation and the well being of local communities. Not only are we planning to bring this spectacular piece of our natural heritage back to life, but also all of the volunteers will overnight in village houses, small guesthouses and B&B establishments. This way the project itself supports the community while tourist numbers are low due to the damage.
Community
As partners of Pan Parks, we try to contribute as much as possible to the local environment and the local communities in protecting the disappearing European Wilderness. We try to keep the money local by using only small family-run guesthouses which have Green Lodge certificates or are Pan Parks Partners (Deshka Guesthouse, Tsutsov Guesthouse and Djambazki Guesthouse). During our stays in these guesthouses we will taste only local home-made food and traditional dishes. In Central Balkan National Park we spend one night in mountain hut Eho the first eco-run high-mountain lodge in Bulgaria. We run an annual 3 Euro Campaign for different causes of Let Nature Remain in Bulgaria. Furthermore, we hire, train and encourage local people to get involved with this tourism product, so they can present the visitors the best of their culture and traditions. We give to the visited communities a financial incentive to maintain and protect their area.
We run small groups to create more meaningful interactions and minimize impact. Our overnight stays are specially chosen to be typical for the region visited and to support a wide range of small and poor communities, with accommodation primarily in family-run guesthouses and B&Bs, in villages and small towns. By visiting less-known communities, we provide a source of income to people in rural areas and make sure that our money stays local. We can say with pride that through our business we have achieved significant success and have encouraged several communities to support responsible tourism.
