Caucasus is a melting pot of cultures, it is also a land of stunning natural beauty and variety. Visiting the regions of the Caucasus, exploring its sites and meeting the locals from many different ethnic backgrounds, we get to experience the real Caucasus.
We stay in small locally-run hotels and lodges and eat in local restaurants. Our tour leaders have a set of environmental guidelines that they work with and will share this information with the travellers during the trip. This may include guidelines on travel in protected areas like in Mount Kazbek area in Georgia or hints on behaviour and clothing when visiting Molokan Russian community in Armenia. We support understanding, appreciation and conservation of the cultures and environments we visit. We run our tours in a socially and environmentally responsible way giving a lot of thought to designing and operating our tours in a way that where and when possible our tours positively benefit the local community. In group visits we include conservation projects implemented by protected areas, provide information, help create live demonstrations (for example a Children’s Art Center in Vanador, Northern Armenia) and by taking part in the demonstration travellers choose to contribute to the projects.
On cultural groups the max group size is 12 people which is based on our experience of the optimal group size both from the point of view of communities visited and from the point of view of travelers – creating a good balance between planned and independent activities.
As much as possible we try to use energy efficient bulbs and appliances in our office (based on availability of these appliances in Armenia and Georgia). Our office is located in the premises of a former Soviet factory in the “working” quarter of Yerevan where people have lost jobs due to the collapse of the Soviet Union – by giving jobs to people from these quarters (simple admin and maintenance duties) we believe we have a contribution to the living of these people; also we share the cafeteria, security, garage and many other auxiliary services / units with the part of the factory that still works which also minimizes many types of environmental pollution.
We run a paper free office – we print only when something absolutely needs to be on paper, otherwise we use the electronic version of the file; we take our employees to our office in a minibus in the morning (our office is far from city center) – this is done not only to make sure everyone travels to the office comfortably and in time but also to minimize energy; on holidays we work from home.
We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
