How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

Regular cleaning of our powerboat fleet will ensure that they remain as efficient as possible- reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Following the construction of the hotel, an extensive litter sweep of the land and marine areas will ensure that these sensitive environments return to their natural state as soon as possible. These sweeps will continue throughout the season.

A vegetable garden at the hotel will be set up and maintained by the staff of the hotel- as well as some little helping hands from the children in the Children’s Club! Local areas of natural beauty, including the Adakoy magara Cave system, will be introduced to and explored by guests through cycling and walking tours of the surrounding countryside.

Our energy supplier is ‘Aydem’. 40% of the energy provided by renewable sources. The majority of which comes from renewable sources. We have solar panels that provide all of the energy for water heating- These heat the boilers to 55oC.

There is an auto shut off on the water boilers when the solar panels provide enough energy to heat the water. Each room has an electricity fob that is attached to the room key- when the room is vacant the electricity is turned off. We use Phillips Energy saving light bulbs- these were originally 12w but were replaced to 8w in our 1st week of operation. All computer monitors auto shut off when not in use.

There are 2x 50 tonne water storage units. These collect used water (grey) and is what is used to water the gardens. There is also a top up system that allows rain water to be used to add to the levels when required.

Guest towels are changed on request. If they are not left on the floor then they don’t get changed. There is a bed linen change twice a week. There is a food waste recycling program. Plastic and glass is hard to arrange however we in communication with the local council to arrange collection. There are limited local environmental conservation projects in the local area. We have therefore taken it upon ourselves to clear up beaches in the surrounding area. This is a monthly commitment.

Community

Our employment practices ensure that we employ and train as many local staff as we can. At the beachclub there will be more than 60 Turkish team members working alongside UK colleagues in all areas of operation- including watersports tuition.

Prior to their break for the summer, we will be inviting children from one of the local primary schools to the club. Children of Kenan Evren Primary School, Marmaris, will be encouraged to take part in sailing, windsurfing and tennis sessions run by our UK and Turkish staff.

Regular events run at the hotel will promote local practices and cultures. Show cooking from our Chef team will give guests an insight to the culinary practices of Turkish cuisine from across this varied country. Evenings of dancing and music presented by local performers are always going to be popular and will give guests of the club a peak at some of the more traditional elements of Turkish culture.

Regular fundraising for our selected UK and local charities will take place throughout the season at the hotel.

Our club board basis encourages our guests to head out of the hotel and experience evenings at local restaurants, helping to bolster the local economy. Walking and cycling tours will take in and around markets and cafes (the morning ‘coffee bike rides’ are always popular!) in the local area. The hotel will be supporting local trades and businesses through promotion of traditional carpet sales. Just watch your excess baggage on the way home!
