The Salzkammergut region of Austria generates its income from Tourism and farming. The farming industry is based around the many family ‘small holdings’ where at harvesting time age old techniques are used and the whole family and neighbours are involved.
The region is also renowned for its traditions and local handcrafts, passed down from one generation to the next. Both young and old members of each small community, take great pride in participating in the local Festivals, whether it’s as part of the dance group or Musikkappele and are happy show-off their talents.
Not only part of tradition, these events provide ideal opportunities for local farmers, shops etc. to sell their produce, helping to ensure their livelihood and way of life remain intact.
Austria has long been part of the recycling ethic. We pride ourselves on recycling approximately 85% of its waste, using only a 2 litre waste bin that is collected every fortnight.
We have also recently invested in a new heating and hot water boiler, removing the old oil boiler in favour of a new wood pellets boiler. This new technology burns compressed saw bust, so utilising a once waste product. We further ensure that we purchase pellets from managed woodlands.
Our festivals trips look to reduce the environmental impact by providing our guests with transfers to and from the events and so reducing overall CO2 emissions.
