Andaman Islands holiday, India
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
The following guidelines are provided to the travellers while with us on the trips to Andamans. This helps in protecting the environment and local culture:
Please be environmentally conscious. Wherever feasible, try to avoid the use of plastics and disposables. In case unavoidable, do ensure that the trash is properly disposed and not left out in the back.
Limit the amount of water usage during showers. The fresh water table in Havelock has been decreasing every year, as tourism activity is increasing every year.
Growth of Corals is very slow and takes years to grow even an inch. It is advisable not to touch or break coral, while you are diving, snorkeling or swimming.
Not to support businesses that operates in an eco-unfriendly manner. This includes resorts that throw their trash in the sea, snorkeling boats that throw their anchor on coral beds, shops that sell coral, turtle shells, tiger skins or similar prohibited items, restaurants that sell shark-fin soup, etc.
Please keep local sentiments in mind - while swimsuits are ok on the beach, same may not be acceptable, and especially so in traditional Andaman.
Community
Employing local people helps in creating income opportunities for local people. We also use the services of local guides, travel companies and drivers are locally hired. Not only this gives advantage to the tourists in terms of gathering detailed and interesting information being passed on by local guides but also creates local employment.
The resort we select in Havelock runs environmental education center at Havelock island, targeting local population, schoolchildren, fishermen, tourism sector workers. More than 80% of jobs have been filled within the local community and most food ingredients sourced through the local markets.
