How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

The lodges and accommodation used on this itinerary are committed to the long-term conservation of the environment and wildlife in Tanzania. Our local agents are very active in supporting local schools and different environmental projects, managing donations from guests and contributing to the management of school projects. The camp owners work closely with the local communities in order to help improve the living conditions of the local people.

Community

The company we use own all the camps and lodges on this particular tour. The have trained and employed local people from surrounding villages and tribes to work in camp/lodges.

The trip stays in 4 lodges all of which have individual projects in the local area. The work that each lodge does is very important towards giving something back to the community. Without the support of these lodges, classrooms and schools would not have been built for the local community and have directly contributed towards bringing in fresh water for the local villages.

It's not possible to develop any projects in Africa without partnering with the local communities. We strongly believe that the long-term conservation of wildlife in Africa will only be possible if the local people are directly involved in the projects and directly benefit from them. As a result of this policy, we have established local joint ventures such as the creation of very efficient anti-poaching units. In each area our efforts are also strongly directed to the improvement of the schooling conditions, and last but not least, we have provided several villages with drinking water.

Close to Kambi ya Tembo at Elerai, Sinya & Olmoti villages, our local agents/lodge owners have:
- Constructed two classes and a nursery at Elerai Primary School.
- A fully equipped clinic at Olmoti village.
- The installation of a water pipe from Kilimanjaro Highlands to Elerai Village
- The maintenance of a water pump at Sinya School
- Support of Kilimanjaro Heartland Anti-poaching unit together with African Wildlife Foundation and Kilimanjaro National Park.
