Accommodation on this holiday is in a family run, small country Quinta, whose owners are committed to preserving the island’s heritage. All materials used in renovating the property are from the island. The food in the restaurant is all sourced locally and is home made. Bread from the local bakery is delivered each morning to the hotel and to the self catering cottages.
We have chosen this particular Quinta as the owners have a strong environmental policy. All hot water is solar heated and all cleaning products used at the Quinta are environmentally friendly. The walking company we use contributes to the protection of the Laurissilva and the guides are local.
Water is heated with solar panels, and during the summer months, just solar is sufficient for all hot water needs. The accommodation minimizes energy use with energy efficient light bulbs and sensors. They do not have air conditioning (buildings with thick walls and insulation). There are showers, and bottles in the toilet tanks (less water per flush). They have also adjusted the flow from the taps, and are about to invest in special shower heads and tap adaptors. Rooms have information about change of towels, and water conservation. The Quinta composts garden waste, and do not use pesticides in the garden. They separate waste and use environmentally friendly (certified) products for cleaning.

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
