Responsible tourism: Garden Route tour, self drive holiday, South Africa

In this itinerary we use, where possible, Fair Trade Tourism accredited accommodation establishments. Clients will stay in national parks where they contribute a conservation levy that goes towards the maintenance of the infrastructure and eco projects that are run by the parks.

Excursions included in this itinerary are booked with locally owned and run businesses of which some have Fair Trade Tourism certifications. Companies used in our itineraries believe in uplifting the local communities, through sponsorship of schools, offering local employment and housing. Caring for the environment and contributing towards the destination through tourism.
One of the properties you will be staying at, and that we love to highlight, is an organic farm on the border of the Addo Elephant National Park. Their farming practices cause large amounts of carbon to be sequestered every year. When staying with them you will get the opportunity to learn more about local organic farming.

As a sign of commitment in saving the environment we received a Carbon Neutral Certificate from Planet Green Ocean Blue. Besides this is BEE-accredited and we do follow responsible tourism guidelines.

We support our community by using local guides and suppliers that assist in the upliftment of their community through education and job creation. Most of the properties included in this itinerary are properties that are certified by Fair Trade Tourism. The aim of Fair Trade Tourism is to make tourism more sustainable by ensuring that the people who contribute their land, resources, labour and knowledge to tourism are the ones who reap the benefits.

One of the properties you will be staying at is Fair Trade Tourism certified ‘De Zeekoe’ in Oudtshoorn. This property offers employment and housing to 20 families, are also the sponsors of the local school Zeekoegat Primary, they have established a trust with the hopes of building a new school which you will automatically be contributing towards when staying over.

Our Company is a first Top Member of ‘the Code’ in South Africa. The Code is an industry-driven, multi-stakeholder initiative with the mission to provide awareness, tools and support to the tourism industry in order to combat the sexual exploitation of children in contexts related to travel and tourism.
As part of this mission, The Code employs the following six criteria (the Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism), which members of the tourism industry must adhere to once they join The Code.

With the assistance participation and feedback from our travellers we seek to forever improve the lives of all the people in our communities.
