Mustang mountain biking holiday in Nepal
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We have a 'leave no trace' policy on our mountain biking holidays to ensure that our impact in these beautiful regions will not have a negative effect on this fragile environment. During our tours our guides will pass on their knowledge and explain the reasons behind our environmental policy and the ‘leave no trace’ ethos.
Nepal is known as the roof of the world, and for good reason; it has the highest mountain, the highest lake and the deepest valley in the world, all in a small, relatively poor country. This makes for a very exciting and interesting place to visit, but we must remember that we are passing through people’s lives, homes and businesses. On our tour through the Mustang region we stay in local tea houses where we will be eating locally-produced, authentic Nepalese food prepared by the owners of this traditional accommodation using produce from their sustenance farming activities. We will be employing the services of local drivers, local guides and experiencing some off-the-beaten-tracks places where not many people ever visit, or spend their tourism money.
When in these areas it is a sad fact that we will need to use bottled water, there is no other choice, but we will be collecting these bottles and depositing them in a designated plastic recycling plant for recycling.
Damage to the environment: our guides will explain to you how fragile the environment is that you are experiencing, how best to preserve it and that all your waste should be taken out and disposed of in the correct manner when we return to civilisation.
Community
Although the Mustang region of Nepal is one of the most stunning parts of the country, it is also one of the least affluent regions. This is because of the remoteness of the rural communities and the low levels of employment.
During our Nepalese mountain biking holidays we benefit the local communities by bringing tourism to this stunning region and using local services, cafés, guides and drivers, who are paid 30% over the national average. By doing so we help to support local businesses, create employment and contribute to the overall sustainable development of all the villages that make up this valley deep in the Mustang region of Nepal.
When travelling through the Mustang region we use carefully selected cafés that are owned by local families who create traditional Nepalese food from their crops and animals on the family farms. We also encourage our clients to purchase their holiday gifts in the mountains where they can talk with the artist who made the items, and see directly where there money is going.
Small gestures like these have a huge knock-on effect on the local communities and tourism, and not just the one or two people directly linked to our company, but all the villages that make up this interesting and unique valley deep in the Mustang region of Nepal.
