Trekking holiday that makes a difference
By choosing our trekking holiday you will be helping to sustain the local economy of the Alpine environment. Trekking causes minimal environmental damage and is an excellent way to learn about and see the wildlife in the area.
Trekking ss one of the most authentic and physically rewarding ways to discover the world’s sights. The back-to-nature principles of hiking and camping may be a hit with the eco-conscious, but thousands of walkers trampling through the countryside can still be damaging to natural eco-systems and local communities. These tips are aimed at reducing that impact; preserving the trails for future trekkers, supporting sustainable tourism and respecting Dolomites local wildlife.
1. Leave only footprints
Responsible hiking means leaving the environment as you found it: cleaning up after yourself and taking out everything that you brought in.
2. Respect the local environment
Walking off-route or trailblazing down hillsides puts fragile landscapes at risk of erosion and while one person picking flowers, burning tree branches or collecting natural keepsakes may have little effect, the cumulative impact can be severe. The trick is to become a passive observer, sticking to well-trampled trails, keeping a respectful distance from wildlife, burning only dead wood and resisting the temptation to remove rocks, shells or plants from their natural environment.
3. Watch out for water pollution
To avoid contaminating water supplies, pack refillable or collapsible water bottles or pouches, carry supplies back to your camp and dispose of dirty water well away from streams or rivers.
4. Support the local community
Sustainability is key to responsible tourism and the best way to encourage long-term growth is to support local companies and use services provided by locals.
5. Pass on the message
Most importantly, spread the word. Share your tips and knowledge with other travelers and friends back home and listen to their own advice too – the best route to change is through exchange!
Some of our trekking tours take in Adamello Brenta Nature Park, which is the largest protected area of the region.
Accommodation
All family hotels are small scale and family-run and this makes the real difference, since it means everything is much better controlled, from wastes to energy until economic cooperation among tourism operators. Our family hotels are good place to meet the hospitality of Trentino and cuisine, to meet new people, and to live not as a tourist, but as a local. Our hotels respect the local law on waste management and pollution reduction, which represents the highest standard in the Italian context. Hotels separate glass, plastic, paper, cartoons, tins, and compost all food and garden waste.
Community
Responsible Mission
Walking is a great way to explore the mountain, travelling at a speed that enables you to take in the surroundings without damaging the environment. On our Trentino trekking holidays, in selecting accommodation in small villages, farm stays (agriturismi) bed and breakfast or guest houses, we make sure that the local people benefit, whilst assuring quality for our guests. By collaborating with locally based people and buying local products from small producers, (organic if possible) we contribute to the regional economy.
On this trip:
We support and cooperate with the local Ecomuseum, which promote local culture and help to preserve local heritage. Ecomuseum organizes most of guided tours to know historic sites and environmental highlights. We buy food and beverage from local producers, especially from local farmers and wine makers, in this way our travelers are contributing to the local economy. We stimulate the partnership and cooperation among tourism operators, to organize events and help guests to meet the different sides of the valley.
All hotel partners are local private accommodation providers, there is not any hotel owned or managed by foreign companies. Overnight in private accommodation enhances the visitors’ experience, since they get an opportunity to be welcomed by a local host and thus get better insight in everyday life of local people in Trentino.
As a company we support the local Ecomuseum and Adamello Brenta Natural Park and both organizations are committed to promote responsible travel practices throughout the whole region. Adamello Brenta Natural Park recently joined the European Chart for Sustainable Tourism and was recognised as a best practice in sustainable management of protected areas. We partner with many small grassroots projects throughout the destinations that we visit - they all share our responsible vision.
