Morocco Berber community volunteer holiday

A taste of volunteering trip - what's it all about?
This type of trip is ideal for people who are unable to take very long periods off work but who are interested in volunteering to work with communities in need, or in wildlife conservation. These shorter trips combine volunteering with an opportunity to see the main sights in destinations.

How this holiday makes a difference

UK office
It all starts at home so we have first worked to reduce our carbon footprint in our UK offices. Through energy conservation measures and recycling policies in place, we are proud to be actively reducing the waste produced and our impact on the environment. We support various projects all over the world to try and give something back to the places we visit.

Leaders & local suppliers
Your very presence on this trip is helping the local community thanks to the money we spend on food, accommodation, mules etc. Additionally the £50 donation to Baraka Community is used directly on the project in its entirety. If you wish to help further you can bring educational items, toys, games, clothing and medical supplies. Our website provides an up to date list of what to take - please contact us if you are unsure about certain items. Please ensure any items are passed via Andy McKee to distribute and not given directly to the children.

All schemes are requested and approved by the local Village Association and our project sponsors on the ground, Carolyn and Mohammed, ensure all items are distributed fairly amongst the poorer members of the village.

Morocco projects
Tijhza Village and Tafedna have been adopted as our Morocco Responsible Tourism projects and we work alongside local village associations and Andy Mckee's small charity Baraka Community Partnerships.

Tijhza Village Project
Whilst staying in the village in the mountains we will be helping out on various schemes of our on-going Responsible Tourism project, which enables you to interact with the villagers and get involved with making a difference to this small community. We have already supplied a water tower for the village so all homes are now linked to running water and have almost finished working with the villagers on the Hammam (Moroccan steam bath), which will help avoid many hygiene issues and provide a much needed self-sustainability for the village. We are keen to continue other much needed improvements including repairing irrigation channels. We also sponsor some school children, assist with medical matters and help the poorer members of the community with house renovations and clothing supplies.

Our work in Tafedna has only recently started with decorating some classrooms and now the school are keen for us to help with further schemes such as renovating a local school and repairing windows.

Group size
We operate small group tours that have a low impact on the communities we visit and we always ensure our operations do not disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people. This allows us to stay in unique and characterful accommodation that would not have benefitted from tourism due to their limited size.

Story of the holiday provider

This tour operator was the first to get access to China over 30 years ago and the first to take a truck to Everest Base Camp on the Tibetan side. They have since expanded into 91 countries. Their product is driven by their clients because they listen to feedback and have to constantly evolve to provide a greater experience and better value. The exclusive centres they use have been grown organically and are often owned by ex-leaders. The holidays remain innovative, though you will now be travelling in a Mercedes 16-seater sprinter coach rather than a rusty old Bedford overland truck.

Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
