Responsible tourism: Marine conservation in Cambodia

Wildlife: As this volunteering programme is about seahorse and marine conservation, the aim to protect the marine life and the environment is one of the main aims in this project. Research and surveys are conducted frequently to assess the environmental conditions towards the marine life as one method to conserve the seahorse population in the area. Many activities are conducted such as reef & beach clean ups add creating artificial reefs all in the hope of maintaining or improving the environmental conditions for the wildlife at the project site.

Waste: Our waste are carefully managed and handled as we try not to contaminate our surrounding area. If we do not manage our waste properly, it will pollute the water ways and the land which will affect the wildlife on our project site. Which is why have our waste management plans to avoid any contamination and pollution on the project site. we also have frequent reef clean up and beach clean up. We also teach the school children about the importance of waste management and keeping the environment clean and how waste could affect human health as well as the wildlife.

Friends & neighbours: This volunteering programme provides the local shops and restaurant a source of income as food and materials are purchased from the shops own by the local community. Volunteers who volunteer will also be giving some of their time to the villagers by teaching in the local school. Volunteers will be teaching English and environmental awareness to the local school children in the hopes that these children will be able to protect their environment in the future.

Campaining for a change: Through this programme, we hope to inspire the local community to join us and care/ conserve the environment and the marine life. Our programme provides an opportunity for the local villagers to learn about conservation and be part of it. We hope that they are able to learn the methods and techniques and continue our conservation effort and work towards creating a sustainable community. By creating awareness within the community and having their support, this project can go along way into the future.
