How Jordan explorer holiday makes a difference

Travelling responsibly is important to our company. We travel in small groups, employ experienced local tour guides and have formal and casual links with local communities. 'Local' is important to our company and to our clients. One of the primary goals of our Community Trust is to support projects and initiatives that advance local education and local employment within the tourism and hospitality industry. We've worked with and trained local leaders for more than 10 years now.

Throughout the Middle East we work with minority groups. In Jordan’s Wadi Rum, we focus on Bedouin culture, staying with local tribesmen and spending two days exploring the region.

Around the globe, we identify selected community projects that we can support through our trips. We are a corporate member of Jordan’s Royal Society for the conservation of Nature, devoted to conserving the natural environment. The society aims to conserve the biodiversity of Jordan and integrate its conservation programs with socio-economic development. It manages seven reserves, including Wadi Rum and Dana Nature Reserve, both of which are featured in this trip. In addition, it manages income-generating programs for several local communities. Among the small businesses created to date are handcrafted silver jewellery, organic jams and fruit, leathers, painted ostrich eggs, sandblasted frames, environmental board games and goat leather nature boxes. You have the chance to purchase some of these while on tour.

We also offset our carbon emissions. We think that since it’s our tours that created the emissions then it’s our responsibility to do something about them; we don’t think it’s fair to simply transfer our responsibility to you. We work with Climate Care to use Gold Standard carbon offset projects (or accredited equivalent) to offset our emissions.
