Australia holidays, tailor made
Excellent with a lot of variety. All memorable, but perhaps going to Uluru and spending a week in Sydney over Christmas and new Year (more)Jan Baker
This is a fabulous place with great food and service. Lizzie and Shayne are so knowledgeable and passionate, it is really inspiring. We were surrounded by wildlife. We had breakfast with kangaroos grazing right in front of the window...It was brilliant, I wish I could do it all again. (more)Diane Bushell

B&B self drive tour of Tasmania, meet the locals
Memorable parts? Encountering the Tassie wildlife from close-up, in many cases. Eagles, echidnas, platypodes, wallabies, pademelons, superb fairy wrens. We greatly enjoy being in the presence of animals and observing their behaviour so that was a real highlight! Tips? Make sure payment details are well sorted ahead of time, and allow lots more driving time than indicated - as there are lots of worthwhile stopping spots along the way. Some advice regarding restaurants in Tassie: Many... (more)Sandra Mendenhall

Great Ocean Walk holiday in Victoria, Australia
Memorable parts? The first two days of the Great Ocean Walk; also the Atherton tablelands stay. Tips? Do some research into precisely what's offered on each trip - the Red Centre tour wasn't exactly what was predicted. Local benefits? Yes, except for Red Centre tour, which relied a lot on Aboriginal culture and settings, but seemed to involve no indigenous people. Overall rating? Very good. (more)Anne Owers
From AU $2595 - AU $2795 excluding flights
Uluru and the Olgas tour in Australia
Memorable parts? The tour of Kata Tjuta - Ben the guide's knowledge and experience was simply wonderful. I've never met someone who could talk with such knowledge about geology, widlife, country lore. Tips? Camping was a bit basic but a wonderful experience - cooking over an open fire under a clear unpolluted night sky was simply ethereal. Local benefits? Yes. (more)Farida Parkyn
From £400 - £415 excluding flights
Fiji holidays, island hopping tour
Memorable parts? Fiji is an amazing destination, charming and beautiful. We enjoyed our Bure in Fiji, the snorkelling, scuba diving well everything. Tips? Go for it. Local benefits? Yes, in every way possible. Overall rating? Excellent - couldn't have been better. (more)Subodha Bhatt

Kangaroo Island luxury lodge, Australia
Memorable parts? Walking into the lodge is like walking into the something from a James Bond set - and I mean that in the best possible way! The views from the main room pretty much are a show stopper - vast circular glass windows show off wilderness on every side. In front the majestic Southern Ocean, behind just wild bush as far as the eye can see... The rooms are very private, and look our directly onto the Ocean - we watched a big lightning storm come in as if we were all alone in... (more)Justin Francis

New Zealand holidays, tailor made
Memorable parts? We had a wonderful holiday. Loved New Zealand, what is there not to like? Beautiful countryside, lovely people, lots to do and a nation that is responsible in maintaining the environment. Hard to pick most memorable....both my husband and I did a 2 day horse trek and we had a ball. Then landing on a glacier in a ski plane was awesome. Can't overlook the wonderful people we met everywhere, they made the trip! My personal favorite place was Arthur's Pass at the Wilderness Lodge.... (more)Cathy Shiner

Bibbulmun Track walking holiday in Western Australia
Memorable parts? Our guide, Dave, was extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of the the countrside - birds, plants, weather, history - he helped us enjoy the spectacular lanscape. Tips? Just come with your eyes and mind open. Local benefits? Yes - this was an integral part of the operator's ethos. Overall rating? Excellent - just what we were looking for. (more)Kathy Hammond

Mission Beach backpackers accommodation
Most memorable was just sitting on the balcony in the sunshine with a coffee and a book and looking across the Coral Sea...and waking up to the sounds of the forest...and seeing several cassowary... and eating in the beautiful restaurant. (more)Nigel Evers
The most memorable part of my holiday was a day trip snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef - so beautiful and so addictive - I just wanted to keep searching for different corals and fish. (more)Imogen Howlett
We loved every minute of our stay! Our rainforest cabin was truly beautiful with polished wood floors, a comfy bed and best of all a stunning view onto some near pristine rainforest... This is ecotourism at its best. (more)Claire Morgan

Heaphy Track hiking trip
The most memorable part of the track was coming down from the tussock highlands along the Heaphy River, emerging out of the forest and seeing the beaches of The Tasman Sea. (more)Allan Justus
A great experience particularly with the tour operator passing on so much information about the geography, flora, fauna and history. (more)Peter Ladd
Seeing the rare Blue Duck close up in it's natural environment was very special. I also loved being in the company of people from around the World who were passionate about the environment. (more)Wendy Grace

Swimming with Humpback whales, Tonga
I thought it was an amazing trip, we spent most of our days on the water so it was nice to return to our lovely resort after an incredible day of whale swimming, with my own beach room. I could even see whales passing by from my porch and I could hear them in the evening on one occasion. (more)Claire Bartlett
Most memorable would definitely be the first time that you slip in the water and your eyes take in the huge picture in front of you that is the humpback whales. Phenomenal, breathtaking, hard to describe to anyone who has not seen it. (more)Jenaya Bailey
Getting into the water for the first time with the whales. I really didn't think that we would be so close so to see a mother and calf just hanging in the water right in front of us was truly amazing. It was an honour to be allowed to enter their world and to get just a glimpse if them in the wild. (more)Deborah Marzohl

Christchurch self catering cottage, New Zealand
Memorable parts? finding little deserted spots - less-visited beaches; an out-of-the-way river. And all the outdoors activities New Zealand offers. Tips? I can't really think of any 'warning' type tips - everything was made very easy and pleasant for us by the hosts, who were efficient and helpful and offered lots of good suggestions for activities. So I guess I'd suggest asking local people for the best things to do. Oh, and use the i-sites - tourist info sites in all cities and... (more)Natalie Kirschstein
From NZ $90 - NZ $95 per double room per night
Kimberley holidays in Western Australia
Memorable parts? Camping under the stars in Purnalulu National Park under the most amazing sky I have ever seen and being woken by dingoes howling and calling to each other in early morning. The wildflowers were everywhere. It was an amazing time to travel. Tips? Make sure you are fit enough to do all the walks so you can get the most out of it. Some require a good level of fitness and scrambling over rocks and boulders. Take good walking boots/shoes. Be prepared to rise early 5.00am.... (more)Wendy Muller

Kangaroo Island tours, 3 days 2 nights
Kangaroo Island was a very pleasant surprise. We enjoyed getting down close to a very windy and wild Southern Ocean, and walking on the beach at Sea Bay up close with the sea lions was a real highlight. But then again so was watching Koalas in the trees, and a walk out to the Remarkable rocks (these really are pretty remarkable when you get up close - the hardest granite you could possibly imagine smoothed like butter into strange shape over millions of years by the wind). We bought some of... (more)Justin Francis

Flinders Ranges wilderness tours, South Australia
Memorable parts? The Flinders is a very dramatic park and one that invites you get out and walk. Wilpena Pound is a rock fortress, a piece of land enclosed of each side by high cliffs with just one route in. Inside their are lovely walks through huge gums - its a very tranquil and relaxing place. Staying at Rawnsley Park, a working Merino Sheep Station, was a real treat. We stayed in one of the Eco Villas, and the highlight was lying in bed and pushing a button that withdrew a blind... (more)Justin Francis

New Zealand trekking holiday
Memorable parts? The scenery, the culture, the tour leader Mayuko was the best leader ever. Very friendly, helpful, warm, informative she made the holiday. Tips? Travel light there is a lot of moving around between train stations and bus stations etc. Food is limiting enough if you don't eat meat/fish. Be prepared to eat a lot of rice and noodles Local benefits? All of the above yes Overall rating? Very good. More travelling on buses and trains than I had... (more)Roisin Courtney

Uluru & Kings Canyon holiday
Memorable parts? Meeting the traveling group and getting to know their travel history and sharing ours. Also, sunset at Uluru was fantastic. Tips? Consider a day before and after this trip in Alice Springs. Local benefits? Somewhat. There wasn't much interaction with the aboriginals as expected. The food preparation and camping was good for the environment. Overall rating? Great - first trip with this operator and set a great tone with us for consideration for future... Adelaide to Alice Springs tour, Australia
Memorable parts? The wonderful walks -- canyons, gorges, other natural features -- that revealed to us the natural riches of the Outback, from birds and other creatures to the land itself. Also... the bush knowledge and sensitivity of our leader, Steve. He added immeasurably to our appreciation, and therefore our pleasure. Tips? Probably more important for Europeans than Canadians or Americans (who live in big-scale countries): realize emotionally, not just intellectually, that once... (more)Penny Williams
From AU $2450 - AU $2495 excluding flights
Swim with humpback whales, Tonga
Memorable parts? Snorkelling with Humpback Whales Tips? Tonga is a backpacking destination. Be aware that taxi drivers may over charge if you don't check the fare with them first! Bring insect repellent and bite cream for when it doesn't work! Local benefits? Yes, we stayed at an eco-tourist resort and spent money in local shops when possible. Overall rating? Very good. Tasmania West coast tour
I am finally getting around to thinking about sending you some feedback on our trip. In general terms, we book tours in order to access places we wouldn’t get to ourselves and so that we get loads of enriching information about the places. I guess we were disappointed on both points. I think the only place we would have struggled to get to on the trip was Corinna and the lake camp on the last night. We could have got to the other places easily. Mick was especially disappointed that the only... (more)Lorrie Marchington

Celebrate 30 years of Tasmanian World Heritage Wilderness with this Free Tasmania app for iPhone

QR code30 years ago the Tasmanian Southwest Wilderness was listed as a World Heritage Site, the only place on earth to fulfil seven out of the ten criteria, bringing to a successful conclusion a world wide campaign that saw environmental activists protesting to save Tasmania's natural heritage from being sold down the river.

To celebrate this landmark decision that put Tasmania on the eco-tourism map, Tourism Tasmania (in association with responsibletravel.com) is inviting travellers to explore the diverse natural wilderness with a unique iPhone app that showcases the best that Tassie has to offer.
