Dominica ecolodge holiday
Searching for whales, being greeted by dolphins, snorkelling above seahorses leave a warm fuzzy feeling inside. I feel truly privileged to have been a part of the ecolodge and Dominican way of life, even if it was just for 2 weeks. (more)Nicola Beldham
We had a wonderful time at the eco lodge in Dominica; I can't recommend this highly enough. It's beautiful, unspoiled, and absolutely perfect for families, and is a genuine example of positive interaction with the local community and environment. (more)Lee Jenkins
The whole trip was amazing the tree house, the family dinners, the fruit, the waterfalls. (more)Rachel Donahue

Magical. The accommodation is wonderful, the food and hospitality excellent and the location unique. (more)Adrian Helen

Mission Beach backpackers accommodation
Most memorable was just sitting on the balcony in the sunshine with a coffee and a book and looking across the Coral Sea...and waking up to the sounds of the forest...and seeing several cassowary... and eating in the beautiful restaurant. (more)Nigel Evers
The most memorable part of my holiday was a day trip snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef - so beautiful and so addictive - I just wanted to keep searching for different corals and fish. (more)Imogen Howlett
We loved every minute of our stay! Our rainforest cabin was truly beautiful with polished wood floors, a comfy bed and best of all a stunning view onto some near pristine rainforest... This is ecotourism at its best. (more)Claire Morgan

Isan accommodation, North East Thailand
Just what we had been hoping for - a place to experience 'the real Thailand' and plenty of opportunity to learn about the place and its people, off the beaten track but still with enough home comforts to make it relaxing for us and our children. (more)Rachel Holland
We had a wonderful time at this village. It was a good blend of relaxation and excursion. The host couple, Noi and David are very warm people and made efforts to make this trip a memorable one for us. Our 19 month old had great company with the village kids. (more)Anshuman Asthana
From Baht900 - Baht1800 per room per night
Kilimanjaro lodge and campsite accommodation, Tanzania
Memorable parts? The most memorable part was drinking banana beer whilst talking politics with the locals in a bar in the village. But also memorable was seeing the snow capped peak of Kilimanjaro looming over the village as the clouds cleared. The walk to the waterfall was amazing too. I found it challenging as it’s a 5 hour walk and the valley is very steep but it’s a great feeling when you know you have accomplished it. Tips? Bring a Swahili phrase book; I kept forgetting the words... (more)Holly Foat
From US $20 - US $25 per person per night
Gambia beach accommodation
The location of the accommodation was the most memorable part of the holiday. (more)Frank Higgins
The campfires on the beach which were lit when anyone was leaving after a week's stay. The fabulous staff played traditional drums and we watched shooting stars, under the stars, whilst dancing and singing. (more)Jane Freemantle

Valencia vegetarian B&B, Spain
Memorable parts? Visiting and discovering a new area and staying with like-minded people. Tips? Stay for longer! Local benefits? Yes, solar power, re-cycling water in a dry area and eating vegetarian food sourced locally or grown in the garden and an overall ecological ethos were just what we were looking for. Overall rating? Very, very good. (more)Jimmy James
From €22 - €32 per accommodation per night
Periyar Tiger Reserve homestay accommodation, India
Memorable parts? All the wildlife but particularly the bamboo rafting and trekking combination. Watching a great hornbill soar over the tree tops was truly magical. Tips? Be open minded and don't automatically expect to see any wildlife! There is simply no comparison with, say, private game reserves in South Africa. There you are almost guaranteed to see creatures, but in a slightly contrived way. It is almost impossible to believe that huge elephants can become effectively invisible,... (more)Kate Tudor
From £35 - £45 per room per night (sleeps 2)
Sintra Mountains eco hostel B&B, Portugal
Memorable parts? I really enjoyed my stay at the Almaa Sintra Hostel in Sintra, Portugal. It is a beautiful place (I loved the cleverly recycled furnishings!), with friendly, helpful staff. I spent a couple of days just wandering around the acres of garden and woodland, and the most memorable part of my stay was sharing meals and spending time with the other guests around the big kitchen table! Tips? Give yourself a few days at least to explore Sintra, with all its palaces and gardens.... (more)Urszula Coghlan
From €18 - €34 per person per night incl breakfast
Porto city hostel, Portugal
Memorable parts? This clean and simple accommodation was in a great location for those interested in the best Porto has to offer. The E metro line is a 5 min walk away. But you should ask Pedro, the proprietor for directions on how to get there first beforehand, it can be a little tricky to find. The metro stop is not in the city centre, though it is only a 20min ride away. The 205 and 504 buses stop right outside their door. The 205 bus takes you all along the Matoshinhos coast line... Saba ecolodge accommodation, Dutch West Indies
Fabulous. We loved the great hiking trails on Saba and the cooking at the ecolodge where was stayed was absolutely fabulous! (more)Colleen Reese
Meeting Tom and the others at the lodge. Their depth of knowledge and willingness to share about Saba were very engaging and endearing. (more)Katherine Lippel
The flora and fauna in and out of the water are spectacular. We went snorkeling and saw sharks, sea turtles, spiny lobster, sea urchin, sponges, coral, and at least 20 types of fish. (more)Linda Hesh

Norfolk hostel, campsite & tipis, England
Memorable parts? Being able to spend a weekend away in the UK with a big group of girlfriends, all staying in one place - a fantastic converted granary barn, at the bargain price of about £25 each for the weekend. Plus, exploring this stunning area of Norfolk. The accommodation was just minutes away from the beautiful coastline. Lovely walks followed by delicious pub meals! Tips? If it's just a couple of you then the tipis looked like great fun. For large groups like ours, the barn... (more)Krissy Pentland
From £5 - £10 per person per night
Chambal safari lodge near Agra, India
Memorable parts? The camel safari - wonderful romantic scenery and Fort Ater, great fun for the children. Tips? Take all your money as British pounds in cash and change at Delhi airport. ATMs allow only limited withdrawal of cash in India, British banks stop your card if used so you cannot use another day unless you inform them. Do not drink the "drinking water" at Delhi airport - make sure you have enough rupees left to buy drinking water when awaiting the outward flight. Local... (more)Nicola Newman

Nkhata Bay accommodation, Malawi
I booked great accommodation in Malawi (Nkhata bay) through the website. The fact that the band 'Beat Life' were there some of the time (before performing at the Lake of Stars festival), made it so interesting and lively. (more)Valerie Cooke
The beautiful beach, the friendly staff, seeing elephants in the wild, riding a crazy matola for five hours through the bush were most memorable. (more)Lucy Shipley
Lake Malawi was the most memorable part. (more)Philip Hayden
From US $40 - US $80 per house per night
Venezuela beach hotel
The best part of this trip was the last boat trip back when the sea was rough and the boat was bouncing up and down - a bit scary because I'm not used to it but I loved this! (more)Maureen Vernon
Venezuela is a fantastic place to go for a holiday. Most memorable was the local people's capacity to drink beer from 9.00 am onwards, so when in Rome... The Islands of Los Roques were amazing to look at. (more)Gordon Young
From US $48 - US $60 per double room per night
Lisbon city centre hostel, Portugal
Memorable parts? Carcavelos Tips? Public transport is excellent Local benefits? Not really! Overall rating? Good but very disappointed that our agreed transfer from airport to hostel was cancelled on day of travel :-( (more)Bev Blythe

Kerala ayurveda & yoga accommodation, India
The pick up from the airport was very welcome, although the two hour drive a little scary at times but that is India for you. (more)Lisa Chothia
The most enjoyable part of my holiday was the ayurvedic treatments that I had. The staff at the resort were also so nice, they couldn't do enough for you and always had a smile on their faces. (more)Kirandeep Rihal
I do feel it benefited local people as all of the staff were local and they didn't seem to impact on the environment in any detrimental way. (more)Kelly Newell
