Borneo tailor made tour on a shoestring
If we had to name a specific high I think it'd have to be the private river cruises that we went on from the Abai Jungle Lodge. They were each so magical, romantic and different - I can't describe how wonderful they made us feel. But in truth the trip was packed with moments like this - hearing a turtle breath, seeing pygmy elephants up close and wild!! (more)Rob Skinner
I enjoyed every aspect of my holiday. However, diving among turtles, in the beautiful turquoise waters of Lankayan Island, was definitely a particularly exciting and memorable moment...All the local people were delightful and could not do enough to help. Borneo is a very beautiful place and I hope to go back very soon. I would not hesitate in recommending this holiday. (more)Jenny Sanders
It was amazing.. A day didn't go by without me having a 'moment'...the highlight here was seeing the orang-utans at the rehab centre, what a great sight to see them feeding...finally our most special time was spent on Lankyan Island, a paradise of turquoise sea and white sands, walking into the warm seas and seeing the most fantastic range of marine wildlife all feeding on the protected reefs circling the island just inches from your feet! (more)Martin Kent

Sabah & Sarawak holiday in Borneo
It was an amazing wildlife adventure - I feel very fortunate to have seen freshly hatched baby green turtles and wild (more)Claire Onody
There were many memorable moments. Too few to fully list out! One destination was the Gomantong Birdnest Caves. The main cave tests all your senses. Certainly a location for the next Indiana Jones film, not for flip-flop wearing tourists! (more)Jonathan Reed-Lethbridge

Borneo small group adventure holiday
Memorable parts? Seeing the orangutans, especially in the wild. However, the whole trip was fantastic and we saw many different types of wildlife, including the Rafflesia flower. Tips? You need long sleeved trousers and shirts for all the days you are in the rainforest, due to leeches. It is very hot and sweaty, so try to take enough changes - it is difficult to dry things due to the high humidity. You also need walking boots. As it is the rainforest, many of the animals are high... (more)Gillian Slater

Wildlife and culture holiday in Malaysia
Memorable parts? 1) Seeing our daughter & son-in-law in Perth WA. 2) The evening flight of bats from the Mulu Caves. 3) The friendliness of the Malay people. Tips? 1) It may be worth considering including an evening meal at the Batang Ai and I suspect this could be negotiated at a very reasonable price. We were in minority of guests without evening dinner included. This was at the Mulu resort and at other location in our itinerary there was the opportunity to eat at nearby restaurants. 2)... Borneo family holiday to see Orangutans
In Borneo we met and travelled with like minded families and individuals, who along with good humoured guides added enormously to the pleasure of the trip. It was excellent and would thoroughly recommend for those who are adventurous, like variety and don't mind a bit of roughing. (more)Michael Mosley
It was a fantastic holiday and I felt that we were away for much longer than we actually were. We got to visit amazing places and it felt like an adventure but at all times it was stress-free and safe (which really helps when travelling with young children). (more)Emma Beeston
Fantastic! Aided greatly by a local guide who was both extremely knowledgeable, organised, and tolerant of persistent questioning by both the children and adults on the trip. (more)Barbara Burke
From £1934 - £2669 including UK flights
Borneo holiday, Sarawak highlights
Memorable parts? Orang'utans at Semengohh, and staying with the Iban tribe at their lodge. Tips? Take lots of memory for your camera as there will be lots of things to photo. Local benefits? Yes, our guide at the Iban lodge was from that actual tribe, so the money was going directly to the locals. Overall rating? The holiday was excellent and had some truly memorable moments, highly recommended. (more)Antony Stanton

Borneo Holidays and Borneo Tours

The island of Borneo is located in Indonesia and is the third largest island in the world. It is divided amongst three countries: Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia. Eco tourism in Borneo is important to its locals, who prefer to keep their landscapes unspoilt. There is a wonderful range of rewarding eco holidays to Borneo that celebrate its rich biodiversity. You can plan your trip to Borneo any time as it enjoys warm tropical weather all year round. Borneo holidays are popular thanks to the wildlife, nature and cultural attractions on offer. It is home to many unique and endangered species such as the orangutan, proboscis monkey, Borneo rhino and the delightful Pygmy elephant. Borneo ecotourism concentrates on preserving communities, archaeological remains and rainforests and, if you choose an eco holiday in Borneo, you may find yourself trekking in the rainforest, collecting plant specimens or preparing breakfast for a hungry orangutan! Borneo has several international airports and there is a wide selection of hotels, resorts and backpackers to cater for all guests. It is easier to take a tailor made or small group tour around Borneo due to the nature of the terrain. A trip to Borneo means you can take time out and sun yourself on the golden beaches, as well as enjoying the more active Borneo tours available such as mountain climbing, fishing and rafting.

Orangutan Holidays and Orangutan Tours

Orangutans are large apes that live in Southeast Asia and mostly live in the trees. The word orangutan means ‘man of the forest’ in Malay language. Orangutans are native to to Indonesia and Malaysia and orangutan holidays can only be taken on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra holidays, where they can be found living in the rainforests. orangutan tours are popular in Borneo as they are fascinating animals to watch – they are very intelligent and have been known to use objects as tools such as using leaves as umbrellas to keep them from getting wet. There are only two surviving species of orang-utan, both of which are endangered; it is worth choosing an orangutan holiday which contributes to their conservation. You can take an orangutan tour which donates money to the Orangutan Foundation and thus to their rehabilitation. Wildlife tours in Borneo are not complete without an orangutan tour to a nature resort or sanctuary where you can watch these loveable creatures, with their long reddish-brown hair and long arms, swing elegantly from branch to branch. There is no better place than Borneo to go on an orangutan holiday and see them in the wild but this is not the extent of it – a wildlife tour to Borneo can also give you the chance to see an abundance of wildlife including crocodiles, pygmy elephants and proboscis monkeys.

Climbing Mt Kinabalu and Borneo Trekking

If you want an adventure holiday in Borneo, climbing Mt Kinabalu will give you a huge sense of achievement – particularly when you make it to the summit in time for an unforgettable sunrise. Mt Kinabalu is the tallest peak in Borneo’s Crocker Range and the mountain and its surroundings are among the most important biological sites in the world, with over 4500 species of plant, 326 species of birds, and 100 mammalian species identified. Trekking up Mt Kinabalu can be fairly tough if you’re not in peak physical condition however, if you are looking for a Borneo trek, it has been called the highest climber-friendly mountain in South East Asia. If you decide to go trekking in Mt Kinabalu you just need some good mental and physical preparation and you will be well rewarded by the breath-taking variety of ecosystems and views. This Borneo trek will make you understand why the locals consider this mountain sacred. Borneo hiking and Borneo trekking tours are very popular because of the myth legend and romance that surrounds the place. Adventure holidays to Borneo are second to none. What’s more, after hiking in Borneo you can take a well-deserved rest on its white sandy beaches.

Orangutan Volunteer Holidays and Borneo Volunteer Travel

Volunteering in Borneo means you will make a real connection with the people, the landscape, the culture and the environment. You can really make a home there and enjoy the stunning surroundings as much as the people who live there do. Borneo volunteer travel means experiencing jungle, mountains and tropical islands. You can live amongst different indigenous tribes, help teach kids, build community centres, and learn how to scuba dive before helping protect the reef, turtles and dugongs. Many people volunteering in Borneo, however, choose to take an orangutan volunteer holiday which helps the experts in the rehabilitation and release of orangutans back into the wild.

Honeymoons in Borneo

There are Borneo honeymoons to suit most budgets; you can enjoy the highlights of Borneo, including endangered wildlife from turtles to orangutans and tropical rainforests, local culture and idyllic beaches. Your honeymoon in Borneo can involve staying in luxurious hotels on idyllic islands as well as in rustic jungle lodges. Borneo honeymoons are a perfect experience for those wanting a ‘different’ kind of honeymoon, away from the crowds.
