Botswana Holidays and Botswana Safaris

Botswana is located in Southern Africa and 70% of it is covered by the Kalahari Desert. If you are looking to go on a Botswana holiday it is worth considering going on a Botswana safari as Botswana has such diverse areas of wildlife habitat. A Botswana tour will reveal vast areas of delta and desert as well as stretches of grassland and savannah.

On a Botswana safari you can hope to see Blue Wildebeest, antelopes, Africa Wild Dogs and African elephants. Many Botswana safaris visit the popular Chobe National Park and Moremi Game Reserve, in the Okavango Delta. You can generally expect very high temperatures on Botswana holidays, the summer season begins in November and ends in March and it often rains during this period. Or you may choose to take your Botswana holiday during the winter season, which begins in May and ends in August – this is also the dry season where there is little rain fall.

English is the official language in Botswana but those taking holidays in Botswana may wish to learn a little of the local language, Setswana. A tour of Botswana will reveal the hospitality and culture of its people and you will have an opportunity to buy indigenous arts and crafts. There are many holidays in Botswana which promote conservation. Ecotourism in Botswana tries to safeguard its inhabitants, the national economy and preserve pristine environments. Those interested in Botswana ecotourism can choose a holiday that aims to reduce its impact on the environment.

Okavango Delta Holidays

The Okavango Delta is the world’s largest inland delta and is formed where the Okavango River empties into the Kalahari Desert. Lots of tourists choose to go on Okavango holidays as it is an oasis in an arid land. There are many Okavango tours to choose from. An Okavango tour will visit places such as the Tsoldilo Hills, Maun Educational Park, Gchwihaba Caves and Moremi Game Reserve.

The Okavango Delta is home to a wide variety of wildlife, with an estimated 200,000 mammals living there. On an Okavango holiday you can hope to see elephants, buffalo, wildebeest, rhinos, zebras, warthogs, baboons and wild dogs. For nature lovers, an Okavango holiday must include a visit to Moremi Game Reserve which is described as one of the most beautiful wildlife reserves in Africa, combining woodland, acacia forests, floodplains and lagoons.

It is worth choosing an Okavango tour which takes you down the Okavango river in a dugout canoe from which you can spot game and birds. Okavango tours can often also visit the world famous Victoria Falls where you can bungee jump, white water raft, or take a helicopter flight over the gorge and falls.

Family safaris in Botswana

Family safaris in Botswana are a great way for you and your children to share an adventure. Kids love Botswana as there’s such a wide variety of animals to spot – game spotting will certainly keep them busy! Botswana offers kids an opportunity to see wilderness landscapes they’ve never dreamed of. Many tour operators offer family travel to Botswana and they often factor in a visit to Victoria Falls, a game drive in Moremi Game reserve and a camping experience in the Okavango Delta. You can travel to Botswana during the school holidays – the months between April and November are the best time to go as many animals migrate to the waterways at this time. Visiting Botswana with kids will allow you to see the wonders that this unspoilt country has to offer through their eyes. There are some very good Botswana family tours available which take care of all your transportation and accommodation needs so you can sit back and enjoy Botswana with your kids and create memories you’ll never forget.
