Memorable parts? All of it! Tips? Research what you want to do as there is so much to do and see in Costa Rica that one trip will not be enough!! Local benefits? Yes very much so! Felt intergrated into the communities! Overall rating? 10/10. (more)Julia Hames

Belize wildlife conservation holiday
It was a very positive experience being in a country that treasures the natural environment and it is government policy to protect at least 40% of the land for nature. I felt that after 3 weeks I had only scratched the surface of what there is to find out about Belize and definitely plan on returning. (more)Cathy Bisset
Once in a life time experience...meeting all the wild animals was the most exciting part of the trip. (more)Kerry Sedman

Memorable parts? White water rafting through the rainforest, amazing! Tips? Just do it, it's fantastic! If you're inland take some warmer clothes (trousers, long sleeved t-shirts)as it can get colder than you expect. Local benefits? All of the places we stayed were dedicated to helping the environment and employed local staff. Overall rating? Brilliant! (more)John Ewan

One of the best hoildays we've had. A highlight was Seeing a rhinoceros beetle the size of a hamster! (more)Keith Valentine
Saw lots of animals, birds, plants and butterflies. Thankfully did not see the tarantula. Seeing sloths close up, active but moving in slow motion was great as was seeing little turtles hatching and running to the sea. Saw lots of birds and had a very knowledgeable guide to help us. The quetzel fly past was pretty good! (more)Rebecca Tunstall

Memorable parts? The homestay at the family at Lake Attitlan, the volcano hiking and the caving. Tips? Be flexible, warm showers are rare and enjoy even if you are sometimes squeezed in a bus. Brilliant. My husband and I both thought it one of the best holidays we'd been on. Superb destination. Fantastic people. Great culture. Stupendous wildlife. I think I've overdosed on superlatives. I'm not giving 5 stars because I haven't finished exploring yet! (more)Joanna Lloyd

Costa Rica self drive holiday, natural history
Memorable parts? There were so many highlights - and part of the pleasure was the variety of different experiences as we travelled around; more like six short mini-holidays all packed together. The very best moment was kayaking in Tortuguero: just four of us and a guide exploring the rainforest by river at dawn. The cries of the howler monkeys echoed across the morning mist, and we got up close to crocodiles, turtles and incredible water birds. Priceless! Tips? Self-drive is... (more)Simon Andrewes

Tailormade holiday to Costa Rica
On an early morning bird-watching trail with a local guide, we were lucky enough to see 5 of these beautiful birds... feeding on wild avocados. We sat for an hour as the sun began to rise, driving away the cold night air as the clouds rolled up the forested mountain side. Quite amazing. (more)Paul Smith
This was a wonderful trip to Costa Rica with many memorable moments. I am reluctant to choose a 'most memorable' one, but waking up to the sound of howler monkeys at 5am and walking down from Lapa Rios to the deserted (except for the white faced capuchins and scarlet macaws) Pacific beach takes some beating. (more)David Oakley

Belize marine conservation internship
Memorable parts? 1. Snorkeling with the whale sharks. 2. Good diving instruction to next level of qualification. 3. Chance to do conservation surveys as something more than that which you usually do on a regular dive holiday. 4. chance to dive in Caribbean at dive sites that are not crowded, never were there other dive boats at the sites we dived, thus only 4 to 8 divers at the site from the boat. Tips? 1. To the extent your baggage allowance allows it, take items identified including... (more)Simon Timms

Central America overland tour
Memorable parts? Roatan, one of the bay Islands of Honduras, was beautiful and the diving was fantastic, and I'll probably never forget the chicken buses! Tips? If you're used to travelling independently then be prepared to find the lack of freedom quite restricting, however it is great not to have to worry about transport and accommodation! Local benefits? I feel that it benefitted local people as wherever possible we patronised local businesses and shops, and as far as is... (more)Victoria Baynes

Costa Rica holiday, encompassed
The most exciting part of the Costa Rica encompassed trip was zip lining above the trees in Monteverde Cloud Forest and abseiling down the waterfalls on a canyoneering trip outside La Fortuna. (more)Louise Muller
Definitely white water rafting on the way from Cahuita to San Jose was the highlight. A great day out, the river was perfect. Lots of adrenaline and lovely refreshing water. An amazing lunch was laid on for us as well by the side of the river. (more)Elaine Bettaney
The most memorable part was going into the beautiful clear, turquoise and remarkably warm water of the Pacific ocean, for a swim just as the sun was setting - an amazing way to start the holiday. (more)Susie Everest

Costa Rica holiday
It's hard to single out individual things - every day brought memorable moments, including close-up and often very special encounters with wildlife, the rafting (got very wet!) and night walks in the forest. (more)Chris Bragg
Most memorable bit - spending Christmas Day exploring the waterways of the rainforests of Tortuguero in a small boat, seeing monkeys swinging through the trees, otters, caiman, iguana, toucans, parrots and countless other birds. (more)Pauline Chapman

Most memorable was the wildlife. We saw flamingos and crocodiles in the nearby lagoon. Everywhere you turned in the resort there were iguanas and other reptiles as well as loads of insects. (more)Nicola Goddard
The richness of the wildlife surprised us every day. One morning we saw dolphins swimming along the shore. Another dawn we came upon a sea turtle laying her eggs. (more)Mary Marshall

Volunteer with turtles in Costa Rica
5 stars! My best experience abroad in the last 30 years.....Working with sea turtles: seeing turtle nesting and releasing baby hatchlings was absolutely fantastic (more)Daniel Halder
Amazing! Would go back in a second if I had the opportunity to do so. The whole process from the turtle laying its eggs, to the release of the baby turtles was just pure enjoyment! To me, it felt like more of a holiday than a work placement, as I was the most relaxed I have ever been. (more)Emilie Gronsund
It was quite simply the best. You felt part of the community in San Miguel which was so much better than just being on holiday and you learn so much about these amazing sea turtles. I'd thoroughly recommend this particular project for anyone with an open mind, who relishes enjoying a simple way of life in spectacular, unspoilt scenery. (more)Sue Curtis

Nicaragua adventure holiday, river canoeing expedition
Memorable parts? The kayaking trip itself - fantastic. Brilliant guides, good food, comfortable camping and accomodation, saw lots of wildlife. Tips? Go for it! Be prepared for quite basic accommodation & amenities at times (although we did not mind it at all). Bring some wet-wipes as in some places washing facilities are very basic and you might prefer the wet-wipes! Also consider bringing small roll of toilet paper. Local benefits? In some instances, yes, at other times... (more)Kam Datta

Central America overland tours
Memorable parts? Fantastic insight into many different cultures. Stunning and varied scenery in wonderful hot weather from the might of the Panama Canal to the jaw dropping beauty of the rain and cloud forests to the awesome splendour of the region's volcanoes and craters Tips? Do as much research as possible before your trip - I wished I had done more! Try and learn some basic conversational Spanish - I wish I had learnt more! Local benefits? Tourism is an infant business... (more)Douglas Newlands

Nicaragua walking tour holiday
Memorable parts? The beauty of the country and the people. Some of the most warm and friendly people I have ever come across. Very safe in the areas we travelled and absolutely amazing art for very little money. Loved it!! Tips? The only really extremely negative aspect of the trip was the experience with American Airlines, flying through Miami. Avoid this if humanly possible. People travelling to Nicaragua are either locals or family of locals bringing much desired American goods.... (more)Rene McRogers

Costa Rica family activity holiday
Memorable parts? The "adrenaline" activities - horse-riding, rafting, canyoning. Watching the children playing in the hotel pool at Arenal while the volcano puffed in the background, and feeling slightly uneasily like a citizen of Pompeii... Sitting one metre from an egg-laying turtle. Tips? A really strong insect repellent - ours was sold in a metal canister as it dissolves plastic, and seemed to be more effective than other people's! Definitely do the optional kayaking at Tortugero... (more)Hilary Mackintosh
