The highlight was hiring bikes in Dali and spending the day cycling through villages by the lake. It was great to get away from the touristy spots for a few hours and get a glimpse of the local lifestyle. (more)Juliet Hewish

Budget holiday to China
The Great Wall was the most memorable part. None of the pictures really do it justice, the views are amazing. We went about 60KM away from Beijing and set off early. It was really worth it as it was not crowded at all and we almost had the Wall to ourselves. (more)Darren Grubb
It was great! The tour was well organized and the guide was awesome. China is a huge country, but you get to see a nice bit of it in this tour. (more)Candy Owens

Small group tour to China
Memorable parts? Most memorable was the opportunity to be in a Buddist Temple whilst the monks taking part in a service. Most exciting was being able to walk at least what felt like a couple of miles on The Great Wall in perfect weather conditions on a simply glorious autumn day. Tips? You do need to make sure that you either ask your Tour Leader or fellow travellers or have a copy of Lonely Planet about the places you visit whilst on the tour to make sure you do not miss out on the... China holiday, Beijing to Hong Kong
Memorable parts? The terracotta warriors at Xi'an and the Great Wall. Cherry, our guide although very young, was dedicated and gave us great tips and help when choosing restaurants and outings. Our group integrated very well and everyone was on time for going places. Tips? Travel light, but do take toilet paper!! Local benefits? We certainly used local transport (busses, trains and only once taxis). Overall rating? Most enjoyable. The only thing that didn't work out... (more)Sheila Taylor

The Silk Route, Beijing to Tashkent
Memorable parts? The sights and experience was truly magnificient, hard to pinpoint as there were so many. Had the most wonderful travelling companions, and though we got stuck in no man's land between China and Kyrghistan, nobody complained. Tips? To travel as light as possible, to keep an open mind in case something unforeseen happens and to enjoy all the wonderful people you come across everywhere. A smile goes such a long way and gives so much in return ! Local benefits? We... (more)Gunilla Westerlund

Beijing to Kathmandu tours, Mountains & Monasteries
All of the holiday was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the train journey from Beijing to Lhasa. The visit to the nunnery was fun. There was nothing on my trip that I didn't enjoy so it's hard to choose 1 thing I enjoyed most. (more)Jules Palmer
Excellent....Go with an open mind, an attitude of adventure. It is a different country. You will not find the same facilities as at home. The food is different. But it's all part of the adventure. (more)Yoginee Patel
It was very memorable and exciting, and a good idea to go on a tour through a country that would be difficult to navigate alone. (more)Laura Tomlinson
From £2585 - £2790 excluding flights
Tiger Leaping Gorge cycling holiday, China
Memorable parts? The most memorable part of the holiday for me was staying in a beautiful old-style Chinese town, Shaxi, currently only reachable by cobblestone road. It hadn't made it into the guidebooks at the time we were there (April 2008) even though it is on UNESCO's list of the world's 100 most endangered historical sites. It was a complete joy to stay in a traditional Chinese house with the rooms set around a courtyard and to wander through the narrow car-free streets with intricate... (more)Ceinwen Jones
From US $2650 excluding flights
China holiday and rail journey across Tibet
Memorable parts? The amount of sights that were packed in to a 10 day trip - the bustle of Hong Kong, the scenery and rural setting of Yangshuo, the ancient city of Xian and the mixture of history and modernity of Beijing, as well as icons such as the Great Wall, the terracotta army and the best of Chinese entertainment. Tips? Consider adding a couple of days relaxation time on to the end of the trip to wind down and let everything you've seen sink in before heading home. Local... (more)Patrick Burke

Shanghai to Beijing tour in China
The best part of my holiday came unexpectedly on the last day, when I found myself gazing at the roofs of the Forbidden City from the top of Jingshan Temple. (more)Jennifer Jenkins
I feel that every part of the journey is memorable - I enjoyed it throughout. It is very difficult to pick a few highlights, as I feel this trip includes most of China's highlights....It was a great holiday - a lot of interesting sights, fascinating history and great people (more)Pamela Krueger
I have been on quite a few trips around the world but this has certainly been the best, largely due to the unrelenting quality of the tour leader. (more)Thomas Webb
From £885 - £955 excluding flights
Trans Asian Express, Beijing to Tashkent
Memorable parts? Kyrgyzstan for the scenery. Tips? If you want to learn about the Silk Road this is not the tour for you. Local benefits? Some benefit to local economy from yurt stays and home-stays. Overall rating? Enjoyed the holiday, BUT! We expected the operator to go more off the beaten track. We could have done the whole tour independently. A lot of time wasted on long lunches in characterless restaurants. We skipped these in favour of a snack in colourful local... (more)David Andrews
From £2150 - £2280 excluding flights
Trans-Mongolian Express, Eastbound
The Lake Baikal Homestay and the Mongolian Ger Camp... both have incredible memories for me that will stay with me for life! (more)Heidi Hosgood
I loved the train journey, chatting to the locals, making food, using the hot water urns at the end of the carriage and having the wheels changed on the Mongolia/China border was a fantastic experience. (more)Sally Foote
The most memorable was staying in a ger at Terelj National Park [Mongolia] and walking in the park... The most exciting was seeing the cosmonaut memorial in Moscow and balancing a Kazakh hunting eagle on my arm outside Terelj. (more)Christine Johnstone
From £2510 - £2615 excluding flights

China Holidays and China Tours

China is an ancient civilisation which extends over a large area in East Asia, on the western shore if the Pacific Ocean. It is the third largest country in the world. Many people go on holidays in China because it contains some of the world’s most revered treasures, such as The Great Wall, Terra-Cotta Warriors and the Yantze River. You can also visit Shanghai and Beijing on a China holiday and admire the spectacular architecture and towering skylines. China holidays will give you the opportunity to sample some of the exquisite cuisine including Shanghai noodles, Guangdong dumplings, Sichuan soup and Beijing duck.

China is a country of such huge size and variety. When considering taking tours in China it’s a good idea not to try and see everything in one go. The climate will vary depending on where you are taking tours in china. The southern part is in the tropical zones and the northern part near the frigid zones. It is worth researching the seasons in each province carefully when planning your holidays in China.

China is constantly evolving and has a fantastic history and cultural past. One China holiday is not really enough – you will want to return and explore some more. Many China tours attempt to capture the highlights of China and there are many to choose from that will take you on a magical journey you’ll never forget.

Yunnan Holidays and Yunnan Tours

Yunnan is a province of China in the far southwest of the country and borders Burma, Laos and Vietnam. Visitors on a Yunnan tour should visit the cultural capital city, Kunming, which is popular for its mild climate, beautiful plateau landscape and ethnic folklore.

Yunnan holidays should also include a visit to the spectacular Tiger Leaping Gorge, with its towering walls and dramatic beauty, and the majestic Yangtze River.

There are many Yunnan Tours on offer – you may find yourself being introduced to a variety of ethnic groups, such as the Bai, Naxi, Mosuo, and Tibetans. It is a good idea to choose a Yunnan tour which contributes to the support of nature conservation, cultural heritage protection and community development.

Great Wall of China holidays

The Great Wall of China was originally built to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire against intrusion by various nomadic groups. You can take holidays that involve trekking the Great Wall of China, which will give you a sense of scale and appreciation of the majesty of this remarkable piece of engineering. It is worth trekking the Great Wall of China in a small group and getting a closer look at day-to-day rural life.

The Great Wall of China is approximately 5,500 miles from east to west of China and winds through deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus. Walking the Great Wall of China can be done in sections. The Mutianyu section is considered to be one of the best preserved parts of the wall and is renowned for its Ming Dynasty guard towers, walking the Great Wall of China here will give you a feel for its historical significance. You will soon realise why the Great Wall of China is one of the great wonders of the medieval world.

Terracotta Warriors Tours

The Terracotta Warriors are a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of the First Emperor of China. Take a Terracotta Warriors tour to see the figures which date from 210 BC and, although buried 22 centuries ago, they were discovered guarding the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang in 1974 by some local farmers in the Shaanxi province. Terracotta Warriors tours can show you the three pits that originally contained over 8000 soldiers. Each statue was constructed by local craftsmen to be unique and they are life-sized. A Terracotta Warriors tour will reveal how much power the First Emperor possessed, enabling him to command such an impressive ensemble.

Giant Pandas in China and Panda Conservation

The Giant Panda is a bear native to China and is characterised by its large distinctive black patches around the eyes. Giant Pandas in China have a particularly fragile future as they face a number of threats – to their forest habitat and population. Many Panda tours concentrate on Panda conservation, the Chinese Government has created over 50 Panda reserves to help protect them from poachers. Yet there are still estimated to be less than 1,600 pandas left on earth. The money raised from Panda tours will often support long term conservation initiatives in the regions visited. There are several wild Panda tracking holidays and the aim is to encounter the wild Giant Panda, however sightings cannot be guaranteed. Panda tracking holidays will often include visits to traditional rural communities who still practice ancient agricultural methods.
