Bali eco lodge bungalows in Indonesia
I hesitate to write this review for selfish reasons. Why? Because this holiday is so wonderful I'd rather keep it a secret! Situated on the southern slopes of Mt Batakaru in remotest Bali, this place is a pocket of paradise, far removed from the ravages of the 21st century. Having spent a week there I did not want to leave. (more)Daphne Donkin
Most memorable was walking through the rice-fields... It was just great. (more)Astrid Dello

Komodo Dragon ecolodge in Flores
Memorable parts? The boat trip that the Eco Lodge organised to Rinca and Komodo Island was really lovely. The food was amazing (how he did that magic in a boat is beyond me) and the snorkelling was easily the best I've ever done - we saw Turtles, Rays, Scorpion Fish, beautiful coral and a whole host of gorgeous sea life. Our guide was really friendly and helpful, just like it said on his shirt! The staff organising my booking and taking care of things at the lodge are all unendingly solicitous.... (more)Jessica Southworth

Costa Rica eco lodge in a private reserve
Incredible - the lodge and its views over the mountains and forest were breathtaking and we had the most relaxing time. We will definitely be staying at the lodge again if we are ever back in Costa Rica. (more)Elfie Burgess
They create all their own electricity with a small hydro-turbine... virtually ALL the work done on this coffee plantation is by the owners and locals. They have many LONG TERM employees because they treat them very well, from what I saw and understood. They are also re-foresting pasture land. Most of everything we ate was grown there except a few things they get from local farmers. (more)Korte Yeo
A fabulous situation , beautiful rooms, great service all round... We spent two weeks there and enjoyed every moment .Great thanks to the owners and their parents. (more)patrick heffron

The whole experience of staying here was memorable, from the incredibly warm welcome through to the amazing food prepared by local staff on an open fire. (more)Rachel Morgans
It was everything we hoped it would be, so far away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Sri Lanka. The accommodation is very comfortable and really well thought out. (more)Annabel Smith

Searching for whales, being greeted by dolphins, snorkelling above seahorses leave a warm fuzzy feeling inside. I feel truly privileged to have been a part of the ecolodge and Dominican way of life, even if it was just for 2 weeks. (more)Nicola Beldham

Memorable parts? The number of different animals we saw or heard was amazing, from being woken up by howler monkeys just outside our lodge; to seeing Capuchin monkeys eating berries by the lake. From floating past a huge black Caiman in the dead of night to seeing a black Tarantula running from our torch lights; it was amazing. Tips? Pick up at the airport as promised and whisked through the darkness to a fantastic, isolated villa, with the sounds of crickets and insects only for nightlife. Thailand beach resort
Memorable parts? Walking on a completely empty long golden beach. Watching the monsoon rains from our windows. Kayaking in the mangrove swamp and watching the monkeys. Tips? If you book in October you may get only rain and not see the sun (we quite enjoyed the rain but some people might not.) Local benefits? Yes, the resort is very sensitive to ecological issues and they are constantly working to find the best ways to dispose of rubbish, generate power etc. They seem to have... (more)Tessa Watt

Chambal safari lodge near Agra, India
Memorable parts? The camel safari - wonderful romantic scenery and Fort Ater, great fun for the children. Tips? Take all your money as British pounds in cash and change at Delhi airport. ATMs allow only limited withdrawal of cash in India, British banks stop your card if used so you cannot use another day unless you inform them. Do not drink the "drinking water" at Delhi airport - make sure you have enough rupees left to buy drinking water when awaiting the outward flight. Local... (more)Nicola Newman

Osa Peninsula ecolodge, Costa Rica
Memorable parts? All of it - it was really a beautiful lodge, wonderful staff, food, kayaking, yoga, massages. I totally loved it. Also, the other guests were great. Tips? Be ready for very hot and humid. Also, don't overpack - tank tops, shorts, bathing suits. Not too buggy at night, so long pants aren't needed (at least in March) Local benefits? Yes, very much. The whole philosophy is sustainable - gardens, advocating to block a tuna farm, etc. Overall rating? Superfabulous. (more)Nancy Gubman
From US $185 - US $495 per person per night
Kanha Tiger Reserve lodge, India
Memorable parts? Picture the scene, you are sat on the back of an elephant looking down into the long grass where a stunning tiger views you with mild suspicion. Your elephant steps a couple of feet too close and... whilst it was merely a warning and we were obviously in no danger, I will never forget the noise the tiger made! Our tiger sightings (5 in 3 days at Kanha) were amazing. Peering through the edge of the forest to see a tiger looking back at you only a few metres away is something... (more)Mark Lineham
From 75 - 100 per person per night
Eco Resort in Karnataka, India
Memorable parts? We (self and my friend Mr. V.N. Rajanna) definitely enjoyed our stay at the resort. The location and the ambience is fine but the approach and route is very difficult to follow and reach. Especially during the rainy season. I know you cannot do much about the road, but at least the sign boards should be more traveller friendly. Nrythyagam has very good directions boards from the moment we turn to the Hessarghatta road. Otherwise happy with the overall the room, service... (more)Vijay Kumar Bhakta
From US $200 per room per night
Costa Rica jungle accommodation
Memorable parts? Being away from it all. The solitude is incredible as is the flora and fauna. Tips? Take a really bright flashlight if you are staying in the tents so you can see any snakes and such on the track when you walk back in the dark. Leave your goretex hiking boots at home and pick up some comfortable boots that you don't mind getting covered in thick mud. Oh, and take snacks that you don't want to live without - like chocolate. Go scuba diving at Isla del Cano to see sharks... (more)Tracey Reed
From US $135 - US $150 per person per night
