Memorable parts? Being in nice serene countryside and away from it all. Tips? Lot of walks and other activities available around Lyndhurst so you won't be bored, do some research before coming down. Local benefits? Spent some money in shops and pubs an visit to Beauliu Motor Museum which was a great experience as much changed since last visit a few decades ago and a lot older and able to appreciate it better. Secret Army base by the main house was of very much interest... (more)Andy Kowalski

Memorable parts? The large pond/small lake was perfect. Our children spent most of their waking time in the water, on the paddle board, in the boat or on the island. Some of us adults joined them ... but at the end of October, with no wetsuits, we mainly left it to them! It was heaven. We were able to sit nearby and talk, clutch hot drinks and laugh and take photos, without spoiling their fun. And all the while knowing there was a cosy house with woodburner lit, just a minute away. Tips? Book... (more)Helen Adshead

Sussex shepherds hut B&B, South Downs, England

Memorable parts? The most memorable was the lack of excitement!! What we wanted was peace quiet and lovely countryside and we got it in buckets. Tips? Take all your strain and stresess and they will fully blow away by the fantastic place, the shepherds hut. Bring a healthy appetite. You are going to need it for the lovely pub lunches. On a practical side an ordnance survey map, walking shoes and a camera and all the clothes you would need for the British weather. Other than that,... (more)David Green

Memorable parts? Kingley Vale to see the ancient yew trees, some may be over 1000 years old. Tips? Avoid East Sussex and stick to West Sussex and the Hampshire part of the downs. The further East you go the more negative is the impact of irresponsible tourism. You can tell straight away. Local benefits? Yes, it helps people who don't have many job opportunities and is sustainable. We went to the Sustainability Centre and they are doing a great job. Our host Zoe was absolutely... (more)Wendy Bird
